  • Patent number: 11964641
Abstract: A parking brake for a wheel rotor having a brake pad associated therewith includes a housing defining first and second passages. First and second pistons are provided in the respective first and second passages. Spindles are threadably connected with each piston. A clutch unit is connected to the spindles. The clutch unit has a first condition allowing relative rotation between the spindles and the pistons such that the pistons are axially movable within the passages and into engagement with the brake pad in response to hydraulic pressure applied to the pistons. The clutch unit has a second condition preventing relative rotation between the spindles and the pistons such that pistons remains engaged with the brake pad when hydraulic fluid pressure is removed from the pistons.

  • Publication number: 20240109528
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for operating a vehicle brake system and to a vehicle brake system, wherein the vehicle brake system comprises at least one hydraulic vehicle brake (10), having a brake caliper (12), having a brake piston (16), having a brake piston seal (20) which is assigned to the brake caliper (12) and which acts between the brake caliper (12) and brake piston (16), having brake pads (22), and having a brake disk (24), in which method a hydraulic brake pressure acting on the brake piston (16) is built up in a manner dependent on a braking command. The brake pressure is furthermore held in a manner dependent on the braking command. If the braking command is withdrawn, the hydraulic brake pressure acting on the brake piston (16) is reduced to a hydraulic intermediate pressure, and the hydraulic intermediate pressure is held for a defined second period of time. The hydraulic brake pressure is subsequently reduced.

  • Publication number: 20240110604
Abstract: In the case of a hydraulic vehicle brake, having a brake caliper (12), having a brake piston (16), having a receiving bore (14) for the brake piston (16), and having a brake piston seal (32) that acts between the brake caliper (12) and the brake piston (16), the brake piston seal (32) is designed as a composite part, with a composite of a base component (34) and a reinforcement insert (36). The reinforcement insert (36) provides the brake piston seal (32) with a degree of elasticity in an axial direction, whereby, after the brake piston (16) has been displaced in the direction of brake pads (22), the brake piston seal (32) displaces the brake piston (16) in the opposite direction.

  • Publication number: 20240092331
Abstract: An electric actuator assembly for a drum brake assembly having a brake drum includes a housing and a gear nut configured for rotation by a motor and provided in the housing. A pin extends longitudinally within the housing and is associated with a first clevis for receiving a first brake shoe. A spindle extends longitudinally within the housing and is aligned with the pin. The spindle has a first threaded connection with a second clevis for receiving a second brake shoe and a second threaded connection with the gear nut. The distance between the first clevis and the second clevis increases in response to rotation of the gear nut to move the brake shoes towards the drake drum. The second clevis is urged towards the first clevis in response to cooling of the brake drum in order to back drive the spindle and gear nut and thereby reduce the distance between the first clevis and second clevis.

  • Publication number: 20230175564
Abstract: An electric brake for a wheel rotor having a brake pad includes a housing with a passage. A piston assembly in the passage includes a spindle and a piston. The spindle is rotatable to cause the piston to move axially relative to the brake pad. A drive assembly includes a motor. A gear train is connected to the motor and the spindle. A coupling mechanism is coupled to the gear train and has a first condition enabling torque transmission from the motor to the spindle to axially move the piston to apply braking force to the brake pad. The coupling mechanism has a second condition disabling torque transmission from the motor to the spindle is prevented which permits the piston to retract and reduce the braking force on the brake pad without stopping or reversing the motor.

  • Patent number: 11433865
Abstract: An electrically actuated parking brake has a single electric motor producing a torque, a first torque limiting device with a first spring force, and a second torque limiting device with a second spring force. The first torque limiting device fully transmits a first portion of the torque to a first spindle until a first clamp force overcomes the first spring force and the second torque limiting device fully transmits a second portion of the torque to a second spindle until a second clamp force overcomes the second spring force. When the first clamp force overcomes the first spring force and the second spring force overcomes the second clamp force, the first portion of the torque that exceeds the first spring force is transmitted to the second spindle by the second torque limiting device.

  • Patent number: 11261927
Abstract: An electric parking brake for a vehicle brake system includes a caliper, a piston, a spindle, an adjuster nut, a ring-like member affixed to the piston, and a biasing member. The piston may be disposed within a cavity of the caliper. The spindle is configured to drive the axial movement of the adjuster nut between a retracted position and an extended position via a threaded engagement wherein the adjuster nut is disposed within the piston. The biasing member may be disposed between the ring-like member and the adjuster nut so that, as the adjuster nut moves from an extended position to a retracted position which corresponds to a control signal, the biasing member urges the piston away from the rotor.
