Patent number: 11642284Abstract: A carousel configured to house a plurality of pump cartridges for a compounder system is provided. The carousel may include a plurality of cartridge pockets each having an extended portion that covers a portion of a cartridge and a bottom surface Shaving an extension with a recess. The bottom surface recess of each cartridge pocket may be shaped and sized to receive a needle housing of a pump cartridge in the cartridge pocket. A recess may be provided in the extended portion of each pocket that receives a protrusion that extends from a top surface of a backpack coupled to the pump cartridge to secure the pump cartridge in the cartridge pocket. The bottom surface recess may have an additional bottom surface that prevents actuation of the needle housing of the pump cartridge.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 2021Date of Patent: May 9, 2023Assignee: CAREFUSION 303, INC.Inventors: Christopher J. Publication number: 20210190809Abstract: Purifying target biomolecules, such as nucleic acids or proteins, from a biological source is a time intensive process and is typically performed by a skilled technician or scientist owing to the highly technical nature of the work. Systems, devices, and methods disclosed herein enable the automated bioprocessing and purification of target biomolecules from a biological source. For example, an instrument and disposable cartridge are provided for automatedly isolating and purifying nucleic acids (such as plasmid DNA from a bacterial culture) or for isolating protein from any biological sample. Such an exemplary instrument and cartridge can work in concert to timely release, mix, and move the target biomolecule and various reagents and buffers through a target biomolecule purification process, resulting in a purified target biomolecule with less manual oversight than traditional approaches.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 15, 2020Publication date: June 24, 2021Applicant: LIFE TECHNOLOGIES CORPORATIONInventors: Alexander VLASSOV, Timothy BARTA, Justin INSLEE, Ethan GENTERT, Robert SMITH, Sara THIELE, Carolyn ADAMS, Kraig KRUGER, Robert Schneider, Wade LUKIANOW, Jay GRECO, Jason JONES, David CERRONE, Sumonto GHOSH, Brian VAJDA, Andrew BASTA, Allan EVANS, Christopher CROWLEY, Robert SETTERQUIST, Anne Cox, Mark MAYERNICK

Publication number: 20210139837Abstract: Electroporation is a technique in which an electrical field is applied to cells in order to increase the permeability of the cell membrane. This allows for chemicals, drugs, and/or macromolecules such as proteins and nucleic acids to be introduced into the cells. Embodiments relate to an electroporation apparatus. The electroporation apparatus comprises: a plurality of chambers configured to store a plurality of cells during an electroporation process; a plurality of electrodes configured to generate a plurality of electric fields within the plurality of chambers during the electroporation process, each electric field of the plurality of electric fields corresponding to one chamber of the plurality of chambers; a flow channel configured to transport the plurality cells during a cell collection process after the electroporation process; and a plurality of valves connecting the plurality of chambers to the flow channel.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 11, 2020Publication date: May 13, 2021Applicant: Precigen, Inc.Inventors: Shuyuan ZHANG, Bryan BUTMAN, Justin INSLEE, Robert SCHNEIDER, Kraig KRUGER, Travis ANDREWS, William HOCK, David CERRONE, Scott SCHMIDT, Jeffrey GENTRY, Mackenzie MILLER, Vincent SO, Chad B. Patent number: 10925808Abstract: Tube management structures for an automatic compounder system are provided. A tube management structure may be implemented as a backpack attached to a pump cartridge of the compounder system. Flexible tubing may extend from an output port of the pump cartridge into an internal recess of the backpack. A connector may be provided on an end of the tubing that extends out of the backpack through an opening in the backpack. An additional opening may be provided in the backpack in which the connector may be stored when the cartridge is not in use by the system. The compounder system may include a sensor configured to view the connector through an opening in the cartridge when the connector is disposed in the additional opening. The tubing may be pulled from within the backpack so that the connector can be connected to a receiving container.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 2016Date of Patent: February 23, 2021Assignee: CAREFUSION 303, INC.Inventors: Janice Pak, George Michel Mansour, Christopher J.
