  • Patent number: 4587315
Abstract: A diethynylated phenylbenzimidazole compound having the formula: ##STR1## where Y is phenyl, cyclohexyl, adamantyl or phenoxylatedphenyl of the formula C.sub.6 H.sub.5 (OC.sub.6 H.sub.4)n (n=1 to 3) and where R1, R2 and R3 are ethynyl, phenoxyethynyl, phenylethynyl, or hydrogen, and further wherein at least one of said R1, R2 or R3 is not hydrogen. The compounds can be cured to form thermoset polymers which are stable at temperatures above 300.degree. C.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 20, 1985
Date of Patent: May 6, 1986
    Assignee: Hughes Aircraft Company

  • Patent number: 4465833
Abstract: A novel ethynylation process is disclosed which provides an expanded series of novel ethylnyl-terminated aromatic compounds having base sensitive substituents and which facilitates the economic preparation of prior art ethynyl-substituted aromatic compounds.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 15, 1980
Date of Patent: August 14, 1984
Assignees: Hughes Aircraft Company, Hughes Aircraft Company
Inventors: Kreisler S. Y. Lau, Robert H. Boschan
  • Patent number: 4374291
Abstract: Bis(ethynylphenyl) compounds are prepared by an improved synthesis process which increases yield and is suitable for large scale synthesis operations. Aromatic dianilines are diazotized to form aromatic halides that are subsequently coupled with an end-protecting group having acetylenic moieties. The end-protecting groups are subsequently removed leaving the desired diethynyl derivative in quantitative yields.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 6, 1981
Date of Patent: February 15, 1983
    Assignee: Hughes Aircraft Company
    Inventor: Kreisler S. Y. Lau
  • Patent number: 4370501
Abstract: A simplified process for converting bis-phenols to dianilines is disclosed. Selected catalytic complexes are used to cause a nucleophilic displacement reaction between a bis-phenol and a quinazoline to occur thereby yielding a bis-quinazoline that may be subsequently converted into a bis-quinazolinone and hydrolyzed to form the desired dianiline.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 5, 1981
Date of Patent: January 25, 1983
    Assignee: Hughes Aircraft Company
