Also disclosed herein is a composition for promoting gastrointestinal and/or cardiovascular health comprising a gelling dietary fiber; a non-gelling dietary fiber; and an amount of a coating component sufficient to coat the particles of the gelling dietary fiber, such that the water-absorbing ability is reduced and the organoleptic properties of the composition are improved.
