  • Patent number: 5928215
Abstract: A fluid transfer device comprises a shield having an open proximal end, an open distal end and a sidewall therebetween defining a generally hollow cavity. A first cannula assembly including a first cannula connected to a first hub having an open proximal end and a second cannula assembly having a second cannula connected to a second hub having an open proximal end are both positioned at least partially within the cavity of the shield so that the distal end of the first cannula faces the distal end of the second cannula and the first hub and the second hub removably engage opposite ends of the shield so that the open proximal ends of the hubs are accessible for engagement with a syringe.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 4, 1998
Date of Patent: July 27, 1999
    Assignee: Becton, Dickinson and Acompany
Inventors: Richard J. Caizza, Kris Thiruvillakkat
