    Abstract: Compounds of the formula: ##STR1## wherein W is selected from the group consisting of ##STR2## Wherein Q is hydrogen or --CH.sub.2 OR.sup.1 ;Z is hydrogen or --OR.sup.1 ;n is 1 or 2;wherein R.sup.1 are the same or different radicals selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, and ##STR3## where R.sup.2 is lower alkyl, aryl, or aralkyl; wherein the bond at positions 2' and 3' of structure I may be single or double; or it may be a C-nucleoside attached at 3' position of the sugar; X and Y are the same or different selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, an electron withdrawing group, and a group wherein X and Y taken together form a 6-membered carbocylic aromatic ring, are useful as radiosensitizing agents during x-ray radiotherapy of tumor cells.

    Abstract: Biologically active hypoxic cell radiosensitizers of the formula ##STR1## wherein Z is a C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 alkylene group which may be substituted by OH; wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are same or different substituted or unsubstituted C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl groups, or R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 taken together with the nitrogen atom form a heterocyclic ring of the formula ##STR2## wherein n=0 or 1, with the condition that when n=0, m=2 or 3 and when n=1, m=1 or 2;X and Y are hydrogen, an electron withdrawing group or X and Y taken together form a six-membered carboxylic aromatic ring.
