Patent number: 8396039Abstract: Systems and methods of operating multimode 3G/4G communications devices in an overlapping 3G/4G coverage area (e.g., WiMAX or LTE/CDMA EvDO) include determining if a number associated with temporarily-disabled sectors of an available sector set of the multimode device while the device is operational with a 3G base station is at least equal to a threshold number. If the number is at least equal to the threshold number, a scan for a sector in the 4G network to handover the operation of the multimode device from the 3G base station associated with the 3G coverage to a 4G base station associated with the 4G coverage is initiated. A scan for a fixed period of time for a new available sector in the 3G network to be added in the available sector set may be initiated; and, if a new available sector is added to the sector set, it may be redetermined if the number associated with the temporarily-disabled sectors is at least equal to the threshold number, before initiating the scan for a sector in the 4G network.Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 2010Date of Patent: March 12, 2013Assignee: Clearwire IP Holdings LLCInventors: Hemanth Balaji Pawar, Krishna D. Patent number: 8359063Abstract: A first plurality of wireless devices associated with a wireless network element is communicated with using a first multi-antenna mode. There is a first number of the first plurality of wireless devices. A second plurality of wireless devices associated with the wireless network element is communicated with using a second multi-antenna mode. There is a second number of the second plurality of wireless devices. A request for traffic resources is received from a wireless device associated with the wireless network element. In response to the request for traffic resources, the request for traffic resources is granted based on whether the first number satisfies a first criteria and whether the second number satisfies a second criteria.Type: GrantFiled: October 24, 2008Date of Patent: January 22, 2013Assignee: Clearwire IP Holdings LLCInventors: Hemanth Balaji Pawar, Swati Tiwari, Krishna D. Patent number: 8311573Abstract: A first wireless device associated with a first profile is communicated with using a first transmitted power. A second wireless device associated with a second profile is communicated with using a second transmitted power. A third transmitted power is determined. The third transmitted power is associated with the first wireless device receiving data using a target modulation and coding scheme. A maximum transmitted power is determined to be exceeded if the third transmitted power is used to communicate with the first wireless device. The second wireless device is communicated with using a fourth transmitted power. The fourth transmitted power allows the third transmitted power to be used to communicate with the first wireless device without exceeding the maximum transmitted power.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 2012Date of Patent: November 13, 2012Assignee: Clearwire IP Holdings LLCInventors: Esmail Hejazi Dinan, Krishna D. Patent number: 8121090Abstract: A mobile communication device wirelessly transfers user communications to a first wireless base station. The mobile communication device identifies a second wireless base station that has sufficient performance characteristics for wireless communication with the mobile communication device and that has a higher communication priority than the first wireless base station. In response, the mobile communication device initiates a hand-off from the first wireless base station to the second wireless base station. In response to the hand-off, the mobile communication device stops the wireless transfer of the user communications to the first wireless base station and wirelessly transfers additional user communications to the second wireless base station.Type: GrantFiled: July 29, 2008Date of Patent: February 21, 2012Assignee: Clearwire IP Holdings LLCInventors: Esmail Hejazi Dinan, Jong-hak Jung, Swati Tiwari, Hemanth Balaji Pawar, Krishna D. Patent number: 8068786Abstract: A method for identifying time of flight interference in a wireless communication network is provided. The method includes detecting interference during a first uplink sub-frame at an interference destination base station, and transmitting a time of flight interference source detection request to a gateway, where the time of flight interference source detection request comprises a time of flight interference period. The method also includes determining one or more base stations in the vicinity of the interference destination base station, where the one or more base stations in the vicinity of the interference destination base station operate at a same frequency as the interference destination base station.Type: GrantFiled: February 18, 2009Date of Patent: November 29, 2011Assignee: Clear Wireless LLCInventors: Hemanth Balaji Pawar, Swati Tiwari, Krishna D. Patent number: 8068838Abstract: A mobile communication device wirelessly transfers user communications to a first wireless base station. The mobile communication device determines a first metric based on a load indicator for the first base station. The mobile communication device identifies a second wireless base station and determines a second metric based on a load indicator for the second base station. If the second metric is superior to the first metric, the mobile communication device determines if the second base station has sufficient performance characteristics for communication with the device. If the performance is sufficient, the mobile communication device initiates a hand-off from the first base station to the second base station. The mobile communication device may use additional factors to determine the first and second metrics.Type: GrantFiled: August 19, 2008Date of Patent: November 29, 2011Assignee: Clear Wireless LLCInventors: Esmail Hejazi Dinan, Jong-hak Jung, Swati Tiwari, Hemanth Balaji Pawar, Krishna D. Patent number: 8031665Abstract: A wireless communication system allocates connection identifiers into a first group and a second group. The system associates sectors or base stations with a reservation zone, and associates the reservation zone with the first group of connection identifiers. The system associates the first group of connection identifiers with a quality-of-service level. In response to determining that a user has the quality-of-service level, the system reserves at least one of the connection identifiers in the first group for the user and uses the reserved connection identifier to communicate with the first user in all of the sectors or base stations associated with the reservation zone.Type: GrantFiled: September 16, 2008Date of Patent: October 4, 2011Assignee: Clear Wireless LLCInventors: Esmail Hejazi Dinan, Jong-hak Jung, Swati Tiwari, Hemanth Balaji Pawar, Krishna D. Publication number: 20100203916Abstract: A method of operating a communication system is disclosed. A first wireless device associated with a first profile is communicated with using a first multi-antenna mode. A second wireless device associated with a second profile is communicated with using the first multi-antenna mode. A network resource utilization is determined. It is determined that the network resource utilization satisfies a criteria. Based on the network resource utilization satisfying the criteria, at least one control message is sent that instructs the second wireless device to use a second multi-antenna mode.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 12, 2009Publication date: August 12, 2010Applicant: Clear Wireless LLCInventors: Swati Tiwari, Krishna D.
