  • Patent number: 6544183
Abstract: The present invention relates to methods to image the skin surface in order to view intercellular and intracellular structure. In particular, the invention relates to use of a compound (e.g., fluorescent dye) to enhance contrast and obtain better imaging.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 2, 2001
Date of Patent: April 8, 2003
Assignee: Unilever Home & Personal Care USA, division of Conopco, Inc.
Inventors: Daniel Thorn Leeson, Krishna Kumar Subramanyan, Kavssery Parameswaran Ananthapadmanabhan
  • Patent number: 6524242
Abstract: The invention provides a non-contact (non-invasive) method for measuring quantity of sebum oil on skin or other substrate. The method includes applying fluorescent lipophilic dye to the substrate site of interest, illuminating the site at the excitation wavelength of the dye, and collecting fluorescent emission of desired wavelength of the dye. Because the measurements are truly non-contact, they can be made in real time on the same sites for any desired length of time.
