  • Patent number: 10176259
Abstract: This invention discloses how Virtual Database Technology can be used to make disparate data appear to be (or act as) the sort of uniform data one expects to find within a single relational database. In particular, we show how to process queries similar to those one might use in a database, even though the underlying data may be missing some of the capabilities that are required by normal databases. Whereas traditional databases require that all the tuples in a table be stored, our approach allows queries over tables where the tuples are generated as required from the data sources, and may not be stored anywhere. We show how such facilities can be used as a new foundation for Internet search.

  • Patent number: 8806634
Abstract: The invention computes approximate origins of data packets transmitted over the Internet. Law enforcement agencies and network operators can use it to assign responsibility for observed Internet activities. The invention uses a small number of cooperative locations (incoming links on routers or switches) to provide link identification data: whether a packet or did or did not traverse that location. The system uses these cooperative places to generate the link signature of a data packet—which cooperative locations observed and did not observe the packet. Potential origin locations are divided into pre-computed blocks that have the same link signatures to given destination locations. The blocks are used to generate reverse routing data, potential source addresses for different link signatures. Variations of the invention store relevant link identification and reverse routing data to find the origins of past packets or to compute the origins of packets from partial information about packets of interest.

  • Patent number: 6938069
Abstract: An electronic meeting center including at least one persistent, server-based meeting is described. The meeting has a unique identifying name and topic, at least one authorized participant and a coordinator authorized to add and remove participants. At least one persistent, server-based virtual meeting space is associated with the meeting that may be accessed by participants and the coordinator from remote locations. The center directs and controls messages having information relevant to the meeting. A dialogue buffer is associated with the meeting space and is capable of storing messages for review by the participants. The meeting space includes an agenda that includes associated goals and action items and is available to participants for viewing. Participants are informed of other participants accessing the meeting space. The center includes a library and a theatre that contains documents, addresses, references, bookmarks and multimedia displays relevant to the meeting.

  • Patent number: 6629106
Abstract: The invention is a common event monitoring, fusion and reasoning framework that integrates horizontally into many different application domain areas. The system includes a monitor for detecting occurrences of predetermined events from a monitored system, providing data in response to the occurrence and processing the data as a data relation in a database. Predetermined events are recorded in a database using an event pattern language that defines and compiles events in terms of first order logic over a universe of events. The language provides common patterns that allow event patterns (i.e., event rules and relations) to be specified by the client dynamically. These specified event patterns are then compiled into the database. The compiled code automatically triggers responses when specific event patterns are stored in the database. After compilation, additional event patterns may be recognized dynamically by formulating queries into the database using a standard query language such as SQL.
