  • Publication number: 20160188279
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for implementing a mode-switch protocol and mechanism for hybrid wireless display system with screencasting and native graphics throwing. Under a Mircast implementation, A Wi-Fi Direct (WFD) link is established between WFD source and sink devices, with the WFD source device configured to operate as a Miracast source that streams Miracast content to a Miracast sink that is configured to operate on the WFD sink device using a Miracast mode. The WFD source and sink devices are respectively configured as a native graphics thrower and catcher and support operation in a native graphics throwing mode, wherein the WFD source devices throw at least one of native graphics commands and native graphics content to the WFD sink device. In response to detection that Miracast content has been selected to be played on the WFD source device, the operating mode is switched to the Miracast mode. The mode may also be automatically or selectively switched back to the native graphics throwing mode.

  • Patent number: 9281861
Abstract: Low-power transmitter and/or receiver devices are provided by sacrificing time and/or frequency diversity in exchange for lower power consumption. When channel conditions indicate that time and/or frequency spreading are unnecessary for transmissions, a transmitter may enter into a power-conservation mode in which transmissions are performed using a time gating scheme or a time repetition scheme. In the time gating scheme, symbols are transmitting just once, rather than a plurality of times, but with increased transmission power. In the time repetition scheme, copies of the same symbol are transmitted a plurality of times on the same frequency on different symbol transmission periods, instead of being retransmitted on different frequencies on different symbol transmission periods. Consequently, the symbol can be generated once and stored for subsequent retransmission, thereby allowing some of the transmitter/receiver chain components can be operated at a lower duty cycle or processing speed to conserve power.

  • Patent number: 9271136
Abstract: There lies a challenge to develop a technique of effectively establishing a direct communication link between client devices in a communication network. In some implementations, an associated STA is a client device which is associated with a particular access point (AP). A non-associated STA is a client device which is not associated with the AP. A tunneled probe request may be transmitted by an associated STA through the AP to be broadcast to other associated STAs. In some implementations, an active scan may be combined with a tunneled probe request in order to establish a communication link between an associated STA and a non-associated STA.

  • Patent number: 8811294
Abstract: In embodiments, a one-to-one association is established between a client and a host in a wireless network, such as a wireless local area network or a wireless personal communication network. The client may be a display device. The host may be a cellular telephone. Active association corresponds to the host exclusively using a shared resource of the client. When the association is solid, requests from other hosts to establish an active association are denied. When the association is fragile, such requests are granted. In the case of a semi-solid association, a request from another host to establish an active association causes the client to generate a query to the host currently owning the active association. If the host currently owning the association grants a release, a new active association is established between the requesting host and the client. Otherwise, the request from the other host is denied.

  • Patent number: 8767598
Abstract: In embodiments, a transmitting device sends a time reference field to a receiving device when indicating that no more frames will be sent to the receiving device. The time reference informs the receiving device of the length of time that the transmitting device has committed not to transmit to the receiving device. When operating in conformance with the ECMA-368 standard, the time reference allows the transmitting device to control the length of the commitment period after the MORE FRAMES bit is set to zero. In this way, the commitment not to transmit may be made for a shorter time than the time until the beginning of the following Distributed Reservation Protocol (DRP) reservation block or the time to the beginning of the following superframe. The time reference may be added in the Medium Access Control header or included in a vendor-specific message, for example.

  • Patent number: 8700796
Abstract: Wireless video transmissions over a MAC layer employ various techniques to improve throughput which may negatively impact latency, such as Block-ACK and data aggregation. To improve latency while continuing to improve throughput, data packets are fenced according to application layer specifications and then transmitted. For video data, Block-ACK sequences and aggregation sequences are terminated at the end of video frames or video slices. For data aggregation, a physical layer data packet concludes at the end of a video frame or slice. The application layer can indicate to the MAC layer when such packet fencing is to occur. In use with 802.11n transmission a data flag may be used by the MAC layer to facilitate fencing.

  • Patent number: 8674935
Abstract: A method sends a signal to render visual information on a display, and receives a user response to the rendered visual information. The user response includes a first delay. The method also queries an electronic system for data indicating a second delay. The second delay is a portion of the first delay and attributable to the electronic system. The method further using the data indicating the second delay to compensate for electronic system delay during interactions with a user.
