  • Patent number: 8328234
Abstract: An airbag inflator in which a pressure vessel constituted by a base and a diffuser accommodates an igniter, a gas generating agent, a filter, and an inner cover that covers the gas generating agent and includes a bent portion that contacts an inner wall of the filter. The filter has a layered structure constituted by an inner filter and a wire mesh outer filter. The inner filter is of a cylindrical shape, in which upper and lower end portions are formed in a tapered shape that decreases in height toward an outer peripheral side. The wire mesh outer filter is fitted over an outer peripheral surface of the inner filter, excluding at least the respective end portions formed in the tapered shape, and has a slightly larger outer diameter than an inner diameter of the base. The filter is press-fitted into the base. Thus, the filter can be incorporated into the base easily. Further, close contact with the inner cover can be maintained when the diffuser and the base are integrated by welding.

  • Publication number: 20110254255
Abstract: To ensure that a wire wound filter can be incorporated into a base of a pressure vessel easily, the present invention provides an airbag inflator in which a pressure vessel 2 constituted by a base 2b and a diffuser 2a accommodates an igniter 3, a gas generating agent 4, a filter 21, and an inner cover 24 that covers the gas generating agent 4 and includes a bent portion 24a that contacts an inner wall of the filter 21. The filter 21 has a layered structure constituted by an inner filter 22 wound into a cylindrical shape, in which upper and lower end surfaces are formed in a tapered shape that decreases in height toward an outer peripheral side, and a wire mesh outer filter 23 that is fitted over an outer peripheral surface of the inner filter 22, excluding at least respective end portions formed in the tapered shape, and has a slightly larger outer diameter than an inner diameter of the base 2b. The filter 21 is press-fitted into the base 2b. Thus, the filter can be incorporated into the base easily.

  • Patent number: 7144034
Abstract: A vibration gasket that is capable of dampening vibrations or movements of a vehicle steering wheel is disclosed. The vibration gasket has a first surface that may be attached to an airbag inflator and a second surface that may be attached to an airbag mounting plate. At least one foil strip is also added to the vibration gasket. The foil strip has an inflator interface area and a mounting plate interface area. The foil strip is constructed such that the inflator interface area may be positioned between the first surface and the inflator. Similarly, the foil strip is also constructed such that the mounting plate interface area may be positioned between the second surface and the mounting plate. Additionally, the vibration gasket may also be used to electrically ground the airbag inflator.

  • Publication number: 20060061068
Abstract: A vibration damper gasket is provided for a vibration damper gasket mounting an airbag inflator within an airbag module such that the airbag inflator may serve as a vibration damper for the vehicle. The vibration damper gaskets include a mounting ring sized and designed to fit about the edge of an airbag inflator flange. The mounting ring generally includes upper and lower retention arms and an adapter groove positioned between the retention arms for receiving the edge of the airbag inflator flange. The mounting ring also has a compression column provided on an outside surface of the mounting ring to allow the gasket to be compression-mounted within a vehicle. The vibration damper gaskets of the invention additionally include at least one inflator ground extending along an inside surface of the mounting ring from at least an upper contact surface of the upper retention arm continuously across the adapter groove to a lower contact surface of the lower retention arm.
