Patent number: 8934450Abstract: In a mobile station for use in a cellular radio system, the mobile station is adapted to increase radio measurements relating to the currently best cell at times when the user is preparing to set up a call in order to increase the likelihood that a mobile station is camping in the correct cell when setting up a call. This is obtained by adding a third mode to the already existing idle and active modes. The additional mode provides for an increased amount of idle mode measurements compared to the conventional idle mode.Type: GrantFiled: March 8, 2007Date of Patent: January 13, 2015Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Krister Sundberg, Benny Lennartson

Patent number: 8805284Abstract: Interference in a wireless communication system receiver, such as at a base station, is identified based on monitoring automatic gain control (AGC) events. AGC statistics in combination with base band processing are used to identify the interference. Performance degradation is evaluated, and interference mitigation solutions are proposed based on the identified interference. Mitigation solutions include IRC, scheduling restrictions, and filter modifications including replacement of filters.Type: GrantFiled: February 24, 2011Date of Patent: August 12, 2014Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Alireza Nejatian, Krister Sundberg

Patent number: 8195258Abstract: The present invention relates to method, and apparatus relating to cellular radio communication (300). By communicating information repeatedly in either an uplink or a downlink connection by directing a main lobe of a radiation pattern (331-1 to 331-n; 335-1 to 335-n) of the communication in different directions (d1, d2, d2, d4) in the cell (361,362) of the cellular radio communication network (300) the reception of repetitive transmission of any information in both uplink and downlink connection with as little complexity added to the network as possible is improved.Type: GrantFiled: February 16, 2007Date of Patent: June 5, 2012Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (Publ)Inventors: Benny Lennartson, Miguel Lopez, Krister Sundberg

Patent number: 8140105Abstract: The present invention presents a method for controlling output power and reducing interference in a radio communications network wherein data transmitted over a radio interface is coded and transmitted in radio blocks. The data passes a buffer of a node before transmission. The method is characterized by a step of determining a recommended Modulation and Coding Scheme level, MCS level, based on at least one radio quality measurement. A further characterizing step is analyzing of buffer characteristics and/or radio block usage of transmission radio blocks to determine if there is a preferred MCS level compared to the recommended MCS level. The preferred MCS level is typically a more robust MCS level. The recommended MCS, level if so determined, is decreased to the preferred MCS level, and in relation to decreasing the MCS level decreasing the output power according to a predefined down regulation scheme. The interference level is reduced in the network depending on an application type.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 2007Date of Patent: March 20, 2012Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Peter Bjorken, Lars Klockar, Krister Sundberg

Patent number: 8064901Abstract: Systems and methods for remotely evaluating antenna installations in a mobile radio communication system, wherein each antenna installation comprises at least one pair of antenna elements arranged for diversity reception. The received signal strength from a plurality of mobile stations is measured at the respective antenna elements of each pair of antenna elements; the signal strength values from each antenna element are compared for each pair of antenna elements; and, a plurality of comparison results are visually presented on a display as a function of both the comparison result and a parameter related to the position of each of the plurality of mobile stations relative to the location of the base station, whereby differences in reception characteristics between antenna elements of each pair can be detected and such pair can be identified for maintenance.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 2006Date of Patent: November 22, 2011Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (Publ)Inventors: Benny Lennartson, Krister Sundberg
