  • Publication number: 20220362682
Abstract: A park ride for use in theme parks, amusement parks, and other settings. The new ride includes a track defining a ride path for a passenger vehicle (or multiple vehicles that may be linked in a train). The vehicle is configured, such as with a bogie assembly with two to four or more wheels, to roll upon and engage the track. The ride includes a drop swing propulsion system that is adapted to drop a section of track upon which the passenger vehicle is supported from a first elevation to a second elevation that is lower than the first elevation. The dropping motion involves swinging the track with a linkage assembly, which with other components of the system may form a four-bar linkage, so as to impart a propelling force on the vehicle to move it along an exit track section provided at the second, lower elevation.

  • Patent number: 11478718
Abstract: A boat motion simulator or system configured specially to impart boat-type motions (e.g., roll, sway, heave, pitch, surge, and yaw) to a passenger boat. The simulator or system is also configured to use buoyancy or buoyant forces to vertically support the boat such that the system's components imparting the boat motions do not provide vertical support of the boat, which, instead, floats naturally in a volume of water provided within the simulator or system while or concurrently with motions being imparted upon the boat by a drive or motion assembly. The simulator or system may also include a display and sound system operable with this drive or motion assembly to display imagery and a soundtrack that are synchronized with the motions imparted upon the boat by the drive or motion assembly to provide a unique and realistic boat simulator or boat ride experience for passengers in the boat.

  • Patent number: 11465061
Abstract: A system adapted for stopping and launching boats. The system includes a boat, in moving water, with an interaction member extending outward from its hull. The system includes a boat capture and launch assembly that includes: (a) a body; (b) a drive mechanism rotating the body; (c) a capture arm with a first contact surface on the body; and (d) a launch arm with a second contact surface on the body. When the body is rotated into a first position, the capture arm extends outward into the water to catch the interaction member and stop the boat. When the body is rotated through a range of second positions, the interaction member abuts the second contact surface and a launch force is applied to accelerate the boat in the direction of travel of the boat and water.

  • Publication number: 20220266875
Abstract: A ride system adapted to eliminate delays caused by variances in loading or unloading through the inclusion of an infinite ingress/egress station within the ride path. The station provides a system to circumvent the vehicle in series design methodology, which allows the station to operate to pull a vehicle out of the line or series of vehicles if an issue arises during loading or unloading. This is achieved using a circular turntable that is rotated with a series of vehicles attached to the outer edge of the rotating turntable so as to be moved along the ride path by the turntable during loading and unloading operations. The station is configured to allow a vehicle identified as having load or unload issues to continue to travel with or around the turntable instead of being released into the attraction along the ride path as would be the case for properly loaded/unloaded vehicles.

  • Patent number: 11338212
Abstract: A water ride including vehicles that ride on a track and using water for braking. A run-out section of the track is provided after a drop or down chute section, and the track in the run-out section runs through a pool of water at a depth causing at least a portion of a vehicle riding on the rails to contact a depth of the water to achieve vehicle braking. Significantly, the new water ride is adapted to adjust or set a variable height of the rails in the run-out chute or pool to adjust the depth of water providing water drag on a vehicle traveling through the run-out section based on the vehicle weight. A braking force is applied by the water that is proportional to vehicle weight, and the water ride may be thought of as slowing vehicles with a range of weights at about the same deceleration rate.

  • Publication number: 20220134244
Abstract: A water ride system configured to provide passengers of boats new and exciting experiences via enhanced storytelling opportunities. The water ride system is designed to allow ride designers to provide 2-dimensional guiding of the boat traveling in a flume in a direction of travel (DOT) coinciding with the direction of water flowing in the flume. The water ride system uses a combination of a guideway (or track) within the flume and a new guide bogie. The guide bogie has a square body and four corner-mounted guide wheels, and the bogie is mounted on the bottom of the boat so as to ride within the guideway to provide guided boats with various headings. Specifically, the boats can be oriented in many different directions rather than having a single fixed orientation, such as with a front of the boat facing in the DOT, as was the case with traditional water rides.

  • Patent number: 11202964
Abstract: A water ride system with a flume that includes one or more sections in which a raft is unguided (except with flume sidewalls) to provide a dynamic experience with side-to-side movement and rotation. Further, the flume is configured to include one or more controlled or guided sections in which a raft is funneled or directed into a keyed guided portion of the ride path and then later released into one of uncontrolled or unguided sections of the flume. A raft includes a keyed guide assembly, mounted upon a lower surface of the raft body, that includes a pair of spaced apart guide members. In a guiding subsection of the flume, the bottom wall or lower surface of the flume includes a raised portion that includes a guideway or groove for receiving the guide assembly, whereby the raft has it directional and rotational movements guided in the flume.

  • Patent number: 10683019
Abstract: A ride that includes an eddy current vehicle drive, and the ride may take the form of a roller coaster with a lift hill. The eddy current vehicle drive includes an eddy current generator with a vehicle-mounted element and a support-mounted element. The “support” in this ride may be a chain similar to a chain lift system's chain with its drive components. The eddy current vehicle drive may use equipment that is similar to a traditional roller coaster chain lift. The chain has a support-mounted element of the eddy current generator (such as a set of conductor fins) mounted on each link of the chain to form a continuous or nearly-continuous (with small gaps between adjacent pairs of the plates) conductor that extends vertically from the chain. The vehicle's body has a magnet or magnet array to provide the vehicle-mounted element (portion or half) of the eddy current generator.
