  • Patent number: 7935428
Abstract: The invention relates to a component made from a substrate with a coating, whereby that coating forms a surface of the component with reduced wettability. The invention further relates to production of said component. The coating which forms a surface with projections and recesses, brings about a reduction in wettability, in particular, by means of an effect based on the properties of lotus blossom. According to the invention, a metal with antimicrobial properties, in particular silver is provided under the coating, which is not fully covered, in other words, regions remain free of the coating in which the surface of the component is formed by the antimicrobial properties.

  • Publication number: 20110099292
Abstract: A computer system that attempts to establish an alternative network link upon failing to establish a requested network link is described. The computer system may encounter conditions where access to numerous networks, in particular wireless networks, is not available. Rather than only providing an error message to the user upon a failed attempt to establish the requested network link, the computer system determines whether the user has designated an alternative network link in case the requested network link cannot be established, whereas the alternative network link is selected from the plurality of network links that the computer system is configured to support. If an alternative network link has been designated, the computer system attempts to establish the alternative network link. Hence, the user experience is made smooth and uneventful when the requested network link cannot be established.

  • Patent number: 7933657
Abstract: Alternative stimuli, i.e., stimuli other than the constant amplitude stimuli used in prior fitting schemes, are used to set the parameters of a cochlear implant system. The use of such alternative stimuli allows the entire fitting process to be completed in a very short time period, and generally eliminates the need for secondary adjustments. In one preferred embodiment, the alternative stimuli comprise white noise that is internally generated within the speech processor.

  • Patent number: 7933770
Abstract: A wideband audio coding concept is presented that provides good audio quality at bit rates below 3 bits per sample with an algorithmic delay of less than 10 ms. The concept is based on the principle of Linear Predictive Coding (LPC) in an analysis-by-synthesis framework. A spherical codebook is used for quantisation at bit rates which are higher in comparison to low bit rate speech coding for improved performance for audio signals. For superior audio quality, noise shaping is employed to mask the coding noise. In order to reduce the computational complexity of the encoder, the analysis-by synthesis framework has been adapted for the spherical codebook to enable a very efficient excitation vector search procedure. Furthermore, auxiliary information gathered in advance is employed to reduce a computational encoding and decoding complexity at run time significantly. This auxiliary information can be considered as the SCELP codebook.

  • Publication number: 20110093644
Abstract: Embodiments of a distributed memory controller system implemented on a single integrated circuit device are described. In one embodiment, a memory controller that provides an interconnection circuit between a first plurality of memory devices to a second plurality of memory clients includes a ring bus to route at least one of the memory request and data return signals between the memory clients and the memory devices. The ring bus is configured in a ring topography that is distributed across a portion of an integrated circuit device, resulting in a reduction in the maximum wiring density at the center of memory controller. The ring bus structure also reduces the overall number of interconnections as well as the number of storage elements, thus reducing the total area used by the memory controller.

  • Patent number: 7929128
Abstract: An apparatus for the inspection of the heat shield of a space shuttle has a drive so that it can automatically undertake an examination of the tiles of the heat shield. The apparatus moves over the surface with the aid of the drive, and images of the region to be inspected are produced with the aid of a camera. For these images, the tiles are illuminated subsequently by light sources from different directions, as a result of which the tiles can be reliably evaluated with regard to possible defects.
