Abstract: An electrical box support bracket is provided for coupling to the side wall of an electrical box to support the electrical box in an opening formed in a hollow core building block. The support bracket has a flange at the front edge and coupling tab at a front edge that clips onto the side wall of the electrical box. The coupling tab at the front edge of the support bracket has a hook for engaging an inner edge of the electrical box to couple the support bracket to the electrical box and to prevent sliding of the support bracket on the electrical box. A leg extends substantially perpendicular from one end of the body of the bracket to contact the top or bottom surface of the building block during construction of a wall. The flange forms a positioning tab that contacts the front face of the building block to prevent the electrical box from being pushed into the hollow core of the building block until the wall is completed.

Abstract: A box hanger clip is provided for coupling to an electrical box for supporting the electrical box during use. The box hanger clip has at least one and typically two L-shaped coupling tabs that are received in apertures in a wall of the electrical box and hook to the inner surface of the electrical box. The box hanger clip has a body extending substantially perpendicular from the coupling tabs away from the electrical box where the body is configured for coupling to a support such as a cable. At least one bendable stabilizing tab is provided on the body of the box hanger clip which can be bent out of the plane of the body. The stabilizing tab contacts the outer surface of the electrical box to maintain the box hanger clip in the upright position.

Abstract: A weatherproof cover assembly for an electrical device such as an electrical outlet has a base and hinged cover that encloses the base when a cord or plug is connected to the electrical outlet. The base has a cord access opening to allow the cord to pass between the base and the cover when the cover is closed. An outer guard partially encloses the access opening in the base to inhibit water, dirt and insects from entering the internal cavity of the base. The outer guard has an open portion with a center axis that is misaligned with the axis of the access opening to form a diverging path through the open portion of the guard and the access opening in the base. The open portion in the guard has a closure member that can move between a closed position when not in use and an open position to allow a cord to pass through the guard to the access opening in the base.

The cable connector includes a body having a first end positioned next to or adjacent the cable opening in the electrical box and a second end spaced from the first end and the cable opening. At least one and typically two retaining members are spring biased from the first end of the body and extend into a cable passage of the body toward the second end. A front wall is provided at the second end of the body with an opening for receiving the wires and forming a stop member to prevent the armor sheathing from passing through the front wall.

Abstract: An electrical box cover assembly includes a base having a central opening and a collar encircling the central opening. A sleeve slides through the collar and is adjusted to a selected position by manually moving the sleeve and then locking the sleeve in place by a locking device. An expandable locking device contacts an inner surface of the sleeve to lock the position of the sleeve with respect to the base. In one embodiment, the inner surface of the sleeve has at least one channel that extends in an axial direction with respect to an axial passage in the sleeve. The locking device expands outwardly to engage the opposing surfaces of the channel to prevent axial movement of the sleeve. A divider plate can be coupled to the sleeve to move with the sleeve and divide the electrical box into separate compartments. The divider can have fixed plate attached to the electrical box and movable plate coupled to the movable sleeve that slide on the fixed plate.

Abstract: A brace assembly is provided having a brace for mounting to a support and a hanger member. The hanger member is coupled to the brace by a bar positioned in a longitudinal slot in the bottom side of the brace. The bar enables the hanger member to slide along the length of the brace. The hanger member has a bottom wall and side walls with a top end for coupling to a support. A mounting bracket is removably coupled to the hanger member for supporting the brace.

Abstract: An electrical box extension includes a base, a movable ring and an extension ring. The base has an inwardly extending flange for coupling the base to the open end of an electrical box. The movable ring slides within the base and is captured by a screw that draws the movable ring into the base. The extension ring optionally can be coupled to the top end of the movable ring. A movable support flange can be coupled to the top end of either the movable ring or the extension ring for contacting the outer surface of the wall when the movable ring is drawn into the base.

Abstract: An electrical box and support assembly includes an electrical box and a mounting bracket. The mounting bracket has a support arm for coupling with the bottom side of the electrical box. The support arm has printed or embossed indicia identifying the load rating of the mounting bracket. The electrical box has a bottom wall with a sight window with a dimension to enable visual inspection of the indicia on the mounting bracket after installation of the electrical box to the mounting bracket.

Abstract: An electrical box assembly includes an electrical box, a movable partition plate, and a cover having an opening for receiving and supporting an electrical wiring device such as a switch or duplex receptacle. The electrical box has a rear wall with a centrally located emboss having a plurality of screw holes for receiving a ground screw and ground wire. The partition plate has a recess for mating with the emboss and a top end for coupling with the cover member. The partition plate and cover member are adapted for coupling to the electrical box in different orientations so that the partition plate divides the electrical box into substantially equal size compartments for receiving high voltage and low voltage requirements.

Abstract: An electrical assembly includes a wiring device and an insert clip or attachment member that can be preassembled to provide quick connection to an electrical box, mud ring or other support structure having an aperture with a dimension to receive the clip member. The clip member couples to the mounting screws of the wiring device and is snapped into an aperture or recess in a mud ring. The clip has outwardly projecting tabs engaging the mud ring and inwardly extending tabs engaging the mounting screws. The tabs allow the mounting screws to be pressed into the clip in a sliding manner and allow the clip to snap into the aperture in the mud ring. In another embodiment, the attachment member has a substantially C-shape having an open side that can slide onto a pair of projections on an inner edge of a mud ring for supporting the electrical device.

Abstract: A mounting assembly and method are provided for mounting an electrical fixture to a ceiling structure. The mounting assembly includes a mounting plate and a cover plate overlying the mounting plate. The mounting plate includes a plurality of strengthening ribs and a plurality of fastener holes for receiving fasteners to mount the mounting plate directly to the ceiling support structure. The mounting plate has a dimension to overlie the support structure and a portion of an electrical box mounted adjacent the support structure to define an open area of the electrical box. Mounting bolts extend downwardly from the mounting plate for attaching to a bracket which supports an electrical fixture such as a ceiling fan. The mounting bolts and the bracket supporting the electrical fixture are cantilevered with respect to the ceiling support. The mounting assembly can be used as a retrofit and mounted over an existing ceiling substrate with screws that can pass through the ceiling substrate into the ceiling support.

Abstract: A gangable electrical box includes an adjustment assembly for adjusting the position and angle of an electrical device mounted in the box. The adjustment assembly includes independently adjustable leveling members coupled to opposite end walls of the box. A side member is slidably coupled to a side wall and extends between the end walls. The side wall engages the leveling members and is adjustable with the adjustment of the leveling members.

Abstract: A swivel cover assembly includes a mounting plate with an opening and a door closing the opening for supporting a swivel hanger. The mounting plate forms a socket for suspending the swivel hanger. The door is hinged to the mounting plate to pivot downwardly from the mounting plate about an axis parallel to the plane of the mounting plate. A hinge member is integrally formed with the mounting plate and door. A fastening member latches the door in the closed position. The fastener can be a screw or a bendable tab that is manually bent to hold the door closed.

Abstract: An electrical box assembly includes an electrical box having a removable partition plate that can be positioned between the ends of the electrical box or at the end of the electrical box when two or more of the electrical boxes are ganged together. The electrical box can include a mounting bracket having a body portion attached to a wall of the box for supporting the box during use. A support member is coupled to the mounting bracket and is extendable to a length to contact the opposing wall. The mounting and the support member are independently adjustable with respect to the box.

Abstract: A cover plate assembly and an electrical box are provided for mounting one or more electrical wiring devices. The cover plate assembly can be modified to provide a single gang, double gang or triple gang assembly for mounting the wiring devices. The cover plate assembly includes a collar forming a mud ring having at least one removable portion which can be removed to form an open side of the collar. An adapter is attached to the cover plate assembly at the open side of the collar to enlarge the dimensions of the collar to receiving a plurality of electrical wiring devices.

The cover assembly can be mounted in a horizontal or vertical orientation where the bidirectional hinge allows the cover to close downwardly when the assembly is mounted in either orientation. The bidirectional hinge has a first leg pivotally connected to the cover and second leg pivotally connected to the base where the first and second legs are perpendicular to each other.

Abstract: A nail plate is attached to the outer surface of a wall stud to protect a utility from penetration by nails or other fasteners driven through a wall surface. The nail plate has a substantially rectangular shape with a width corresponding to the width of the stud. The nail plate has a first and second longitudinal ends with nail tabs for attaching the nail plate to the stud. The ends of the nail plate have at least one recess and at least one protruding portion where the protruding portion can mate with a recess of an adjacent nail plate is ganged together. The nail plates can have coupling members to couple a plurality of nail plates in series in an end to end fashion. The longitudinal ends of the nail plate enable the ends to abut each other with no open portions that can allow a fastener to pass though. In one embodiment the nail tabs extend in a longitudinal direction with respect to a longitudinal dimension of the nail plate.
