Abstract: Auctions with socially-connected private advance offerings are provided by by a social auction integration server by receiving at least one parameter regarding an item to be offered in an online auction by an offeror user; using the parameter and an identifier of the offeror user, searching at least one social network server for identifies of friends and associates that have a recorded affinity for the item or for similar items; preparing a list of the friend users and associate users; configuring a restricted auction wherein only the friend users and associate users are allowed to review and bid on the offered item; and providing the friend users and associate users a digital means for accessing the restricted auction.

The partitions may either be logical or physical partitions and may be allocated differently based on the user. In an exemplary illustration, a shared partition/buffer is used for multiple users who may each initiate the recording of various shows or recordings which may be shared by other users. The interactive shared partition is used to allow multi-room coordination, messaging, content cloning, user-to-user notifications, and specific user to user messaging facilities, with the capability of setting notifications for other parties on the addition/removal of content, “pushing” recommendations of shows to other users of a shared DVR system, and allowing messages to be left to other users regarding content.

Abstract: An embodiment of the invention provides a method for communicating on a telecommunications device, wherein a telephone number is received from a user via an interface of the telecommunications device. At least one character from the user is also received via the interface in response to key press options presented to the user. The telephone number and the character received from the user are automatically saved on a memory device. The character is automatically associated with the telephone number. Contextual information associated with the character is saved, wherein the contextual information indicates the time of day that the character is entered, the date that the character is entered, and/or the type of call where the character is entered. The character is presented to the user in a list of previously entered characters on a display of the telecommunications device during a subsequent telephone call to the saved telephone number.

Abstract: An approach is provided in which a caching appliance receives a data packet over a network connection utilizing a network protocol. The caching appliance selects a storage area based upon the network protocol and stores the data packet in the selected storage area. An email is composed on the mobile device. A user selection is received of a file to be attached to the email. The selection is made from an off-line snapshot of a remote file system in which the file is located. A link corresponding to the location of the file in the remote file system is embedded into the email. The email with the link is placed in a queue on the mobile device. The email with the file corresponding to the link is sent in response to the remote file system becoming available to the mobile device.

Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for sending out meeting notices that specify logistics for both a primary meeting and an alternate meeting. The invitees are to respond, indicating their availability for attending the primary and alternate meetings. Based on the invitee responses, the system sets up the meeting for either the primary time/place for the meeting or the alternate time/place for the meeting. The final meeting notices are sent out to the invitees informing them of the meeting logistics.

The request includes a universal resource identifier to a destination. A determination is made as to whether the request requires encryption using the universal resource identifier in the request. The request is sent through the port to the destination in an encrypted form, in response to a determination that the request requires encryption.

Abstract: A method, system and computer-usable medium for early notification of a pending deletion event by a digital playback device. Programs associated with the digital playback device can be scheduled for deletion in advance by a digital playback device interface manually and/or automatically. A deletion event can be notified through a remote delivery by analyzing scheduled recordings and hard drive space if the digital playback device recognizes a recording is close to the deletion event. The notification of the deletion event can be enabled by configuring a number of notification options maintained for each user profile by the digital playback device at a predefined time. The deletion event can be modified through the remote means, which allows a user to send information back to the digital playback device after a deletion notification is received. The deleted files can be moved to a deleted programs folder from which the program can be recovered and the recording can be irrevocably removed after a time period.

Abstract: A method, program product and system are provided for controlling the amount of power consumed by DVR devices in recording and playing broadcast video events. In an exemplary embodiment, upcoming recording requests are compared against a schedule guide for both local and networked DVRs. The system enables a user to make a selection to delay a scheduled recording up to a selected time in the future. The system then reschedules recordings to optimally overlap other scheduled recording to enable optimal usage of DVR tuners for a given period of time based upon the number of tuners in a DVR. In another separate embodiment or in combination with tuner optimization, recording events are rescheduled, within an authorized delay period, to a time when power rates are lower.

Abstract: A method, program product and system are provided for optimizing recording requests to minimize electricity usage for a network of DVRs. The disclosed methodology analyzes upcoming recording requests against a schedule guide including both local and networked DVRs. Overlaps in requested recordings and broadcasts during same or close proximity time slots are identified. Requested recordings are then rescheduled to optimally overlap recording times based upon the number of tuners in each DVR system. Changes in recording schedules are then communicated to other interconnected DVRs in a network.

Abstract: A method, programmed medium and system are provided for an enhanced interface connection for a primary electronic device such that system storage devices (e.g. hard drives, solid state drives, flash drives, etc.) within the primary device may be made available to other nearby devices in the event of a power supply failure or battery failure or to preserve-battery power in the primary system whereby the data on a storage device within a primary system becomes accessible by external devices, without necessitating the removal of the storage medium or full powering-up of the primary system.

Abstract: A method, system and computer program provide a mechanism for playing damaged digital video media and optionally notifying a service agency of the damage. When a defect is located on media, the DVD player reads the media to determine damaged portions of the video program. Once the damaged portion is identified, the DVD player downloads content from a remote content provider, such as the content producer, a rental agency, or a third party provider. The content may be downloaded during or prior to video playback. Rental agencies or other providers may be notified of damaged media by network message. When a defect is located during playback and content is downloaded, the DVD player transmits user and disc identification data encoded in the DVD player and on the media across the network to the agency. The agency may use the information to flag the media for removal from circulation upon return.
