Patent number: 10422219Abstract: A system for channel sounding and initializing an equalizer using a frequency hopping sounder signal. The system identifies a frequency range for sounding a channel between a first device at a first location within a wellbore and a second device at a second location within the wellbore. Center frequencies, bandwidths, and timeframes are assigned to each of a plurality of sounding sequences, such that an entirety of the frequency range is assigned to the plurality of sounding sequences, and wherein when played in order according to the timeframe assigned to each sounding sequence in the plurality of sounding sequences, a sounding signal having a non-contiguous frequency is produced. By comparing an attenuated sounding signal based on the sounding signal to the sounding signal, the system estimates a transfer function of the channel. The system also initializes the equalizer based on the comparison.Type: GrantFiled: July 24, 2015Date of Patent: September 24, 2019Assignee: HALLIBURTON ENERGY SERVICES, INC.Inventors: Henry Spyker Owen, Bipin Kumar Pillai

Publication number: 20170184665Abstract: A method and apparatus for testing an electronic device with multiple cores is provided. The method begins when at least one scan is input for scan configuring. A signal having a predetermined number of bits is then input to a decoder. The decoder then outputs at least one assigned test channel based on the output of the decoder. A test control block then switches at least one selected scan in channel to a test control block. A hard macro scan out of channels is then input to a channel maximization device which allocates or re-allocates the channels for testing. Testing proceeds once the channels are allocated. An apparatus includes a programmable scan configuration block for adjusting the number of scan out channels to maximize testing resources and a predetermined bit register in communication with the programmable scan configuration block.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 28, 2015Publication date: June 29, 2017Inventors: Rajesh Tiwari, Venkata Raghava Sesha Sai Aduru, Manish Kumar Pillai, Nishi Bhushan Singh

Patent number: 8264246Abstract: A method for determining characteristics of a multi-material object is provided. The method includes producing a rotating electric field by providing an applied electrical signal set of individual electrical signal patterns to electrodes surrounding the multi-material object. The method also includes obtaining a measured electrical signal of electrical signals from the electrodes corresponding to each electrical signal pattern applied. An electrical network is determined based on the applied electrical signal set, the measured electrical signal set and an inverse of the applied electrical signal set. The method further includes determining the characteristics of the multi-material object by analyzing the electrical network.Type: GrantFiled: January 5, 2010Date of Patent: September 11, 2012Assignee: General Electric CompanyInventors: Sakethraman Mahalingam, Manoj Kumar Koyithitta Meethal, Arijit Banerjee, Wrichik Basu, Harish Kumar Pillai

Patent number: 6920085Abstract: A downlink telemetry system providing improved apparatus and methods for communicating instructions via pressure pulses from surface equipment to a downhole assembly. The apparatus comprises a surface transmitter for generating pressure pulses, a control system, and a downhole receiver for receiving and decoding pulses. In operation, a bypass valve is opened and closed to create a series of pressure pulses received and decoded by a downhole receiver. The method significantly reduces the time required for downlink communication without interrupting drilling and without interrupting uplink communications such that simultaneous, bi-directional communication is achievable if the uplink and downlink signals are sent at different frequencies. The telemetry scheme and algorithm provide an inventive method for filtering and decoding the downlink signals. The algorithm determines the time intervals between pulse peaks and decodes the intervals into an instruction.Type: GrantFiled: February 14, 2001Date of Patent: July 19, 2005Assignee: Halliburton Energy Services, Inc.Inventors: Michael Dewayne Finke, Doyle Raymond Warren, II, Cili Sun, Bipin Kumar Pillai
