    Abstract: A shadow mask is arranged to face a phosphor screen formed on an inner surface of a panel. A plurality of aperture columns are formed in parallel in the shadow mask. Each aperture column includes a plurality of apertures arranged in line at a predetermined interval. On both sides of each aperture column on the surface of the shadow mask facing the electron gun, stripe-shaped dielectric layers for acting on electron beams toward the apertures are formed respectively, and extend in substantial parallel with the aperture columns. The shadow mask is manufactured in such a manner that stripe-shaped insulating material layers are formed on the surface of a mask base material facing the electron gun, the mask base material is thereafter shaped into a predetermined shape, and the insulating material layers on the shaped mask are sintered.

    Abstract: An electron gun assembly of a color cathode ray tube emits at least one electron beam having an oblong cross-sectional shape extending substantially in the horizontal direction, and emits three electron beams in a substantially non-convergent state toward the central portion of a phosphor screen. A deflection device comprises an auxiliary magnetic field generator for generating a quadrupole magnetic field component which focuses the electron beam with an oblong cross section more heavily in the horizontal direction than in the vertical direction. The auxiliary magnetic field generator is located in a given region in a tube-axis direction in which the horizontally deflecting coil is located.

    Abstract: A face panel (12) constituting a part of a vacuum envelope (20) has a substantially rectangular effective area (10), the inner surface of which is formed with a phosphor screen (14). The outer surface of the effective area is cylindrically curved with an infinitely large radius of curvature along the long axis and a predetermined radius of curvature along the short axis. The vacuum envelope has arranged therein a shadow mask (15) in opposed relation to the phosphor screen. A mask body of the shadow mask has a substantially rectangular effective surface cylindrically curved with an infinitely large radius of curvature along the long axis and a predetermined radius of curvature along the short axis thereof.

    Abstract: A color-cathode ray tube having a shadow mask with improved aperture arrays. The aperture arrays are spaced at appropriate intervals and are curved to suppress local doming of the effective part of the shadow mask and to prevent electron-beam mislanding from occurring on a phosphor screen. The distance between any two adjacent apertures is expressed as: PH(N)=A+BN.sup.2 +CN.sup.4, where PH(N) is the distance between the (N-1)th and Nth arrays and A, B, and C are fourth-degree functions of a Y-coordinate. The apertures along a long side of the effective part of the shadow mask in a section extending for one-fourth of a width of the effective part of the shadow mask from a short side of the effective part of the shadow mask are inclined in an opposite direction to the apertures within the section and located one-third of a height of the effective part of the shadow mask from the long side.

The deflection device also having a pair of correction coils each of which being located at a distance of 10 mm or less from a plane containing the center and vertical axes of the device, a current flowing through each correction coil in synchronism with, and in a direction opposite to, the currents flowing in the horizontal deflection coils. The deflection device may also include a second pair of correcting coils, each of which being located adjacent to the first pair of correcting coils and arranged in a similar arrangement relative to the plane defined by the center and vertical axes.

    Abstract: In a color cathode ray tube, an in-line electron gun assembly is located in the neck of a vacuum envelope and vertical and horizontal magnetic coils are arranged on the outer surface of the funnel of the vacuum envelope. The vertical magnetic coil produces a vertical magnetic field which has an asymmetrical distribution relative to a horizontal axis within a deflection plane. The asymmetrical distribution is determined as a function of the screen position on which electron beams deflected from the horizontal axis of the screen land. The electron beams are thus subjected to a negative astigmatism by the vertical deflection magnetic field.

    Abstract: In a color picture device having a color picture tube, three electron guns for emitting electron beams are arranged in a neck section of the tube. A shadow mask, having a number of apertures, is arranged opposing a phosphor screen of a panel section of the tube. Convergence yokes for correcting misconvergence of the three electron beams are arranged around the neck section. A convergence electrode for converging the three electron beams over the entire screen is arranged in the neck section at the ends of the guns closer to the phosphor screen. The convergence electrode has three pairs of pole pieces each of which is formed of a magnetic substance with high permeability and is arranged in the neck section so as to surround the electron beam between the pole pieces. The length Wp of each pole piece along the tube axis is about two times or more the distance G between the pole pieces, and the length Wp is about twice the thickness Wy of the convergence yoke along the tube axis.
