  • Patent number: 7995156
Abstract: A display substrate includes a substrate, signal lines and test lines. The substrate includes a pixel region where pixels are disposed, a buffer region surrounding the pixel region and a grinding region surrounding the buffer region. The signal lines pass through the buffer region from the grinding region to provide the pixels with a driving signal. The test lines are disposed on the grinding region and the buffer region, respectively, so that the test lines intersect the signal lines in a lattice structure. Each of the test lines is electrically connected to the signal lines of a first number calculated by dividing a second number of the signal lines by a third number of the test lines. Thus, the performance of the pixels used for displaying an image may be tested more precisely.

  • Patent number: 7842345
Abstract: An inkjet method of printing an alignment layer is presented. The method entails depositing drops of an alignment liquid on a substrate while moving a plurality of inkjet heads and/or the substrate relative to each other to form a first dropping line on the substrate. The method also entails rotating a printing stage on which the substrate is mounted, and depositing drops of the alignment liquid on the substrate after forming the fist dropping line to form a second dropping line. Since the printing stage is elevated and rotated, the drops of the alignment liquid are easily deposited in a grid pattern to decrease the space between adjacent drops. If desired, drops may be skipped to avoid depositing the alignment liquid multiple times on the same location on the substrate. With this method, the planarization time of the alignment layers is shortened.

  • Patent number: 6011609
Abstract: Liquid crystal displays are manufactured by dropping liquid crystals on at least one of a pair of liquid crystal display substrates and then placing the pair of liquid crystal display substrates adjacent one another, with the liquid crystals therebetween. The pair of liquid crystal display substrates is pressed toward one another, to thereby discharge excess liquid crystals from between the liquid crystal display substrates. The pair of liquid crystal substrates is then sealed to retain the liquid crystals therebetween. Accordingly, by not requiring the use of injection of liquid crystals, high vacuum processing is not required. Moreover, the number of processing steps can be reduced compared to conventional liquid crystal display manufacturing methods.

  • Patent number: 5828435
Abstract: The present invention relates to a liquid crystal cell and a fabricating method thereof, more specifically, relates to a method for combining a pair of glass substrates and to a liquid crystal cell made thereby. A fabricating method according to the present invention includes steps of spreading spacers on an inner surface of a first transparent substrate provided with electrodes, and forming a seal member along the boundary edge of a second transparent substrate provided with electrodes after aligning the second substrate to be opposite to the first substrate. As the seal member is formed while the first and the second substrates are held under pressure, no special equipment is needed and no additional step of pressing is necessary after aligning the substrates. Furthermore, the seal member occupies smaller area in the alignment surfaces of the cell compared to a conventional art.
