  • Publication number: 20040252482
Abstract: The present invention provides a light source device (3) with point light source for eliminating some dark regions on a light guide plate (31), which has preferably optical uniformity. The light source device includes an LED (32) for providing illumination and the light guide plate. The light guide plate has a first side surface (311) for holding the LED, a second side surface (312) adjacent to the first side surface posited a V-shaped array (3121), an emitting surface (314) joining the first side surface and the second side and a bottom surface (315) opposing to the emitting surface. The first side surface is oblique to the second side surface with an acute angle, and has a light entrance (316) disposed adjacent to the second side surface for receiving light beams emitted by the LED.

  • Publication number: 20040248049
Abstract: A method for fabricating a patterned core for a light guide plate includes: providing a substrate (500); coating a photo-resist layer (600) on the substrate; exposing the photo-resist layer to light using a photo-mask (700), the photo-mask having patterns, wherein a line-width of each pattern is less than that of a corresponding pattern of the patterned core; developing the photo-resist layer; wet etching the substrate; and removing remaining photo-resist from the substrate. Because of the isotropic directionality of the wet etching, the horizontal component of the etching can appreciably enlarge a horizontal dimension of each etched area, thereby compensating for the difference in size between each pattern of the photo-mask and the corresponding pattern of the finished core. Thus, only one semiconductor process having an exposing, a developing and an etching step is needed to fabricate the core having fine patterns. The method is relatively simple, and reduces operating costs.

  • Publication number: 20040240195
Abstract: A frame for a bakclight module includes a stable case (21), a movable case (22) and connecting elements. The stable case has a bottom plate (210) and at least three sidewalls (211) connected to the bottom plate, and the movable case has a back rim (221) and two side rims (222) connected thereto. The movable case is slideably connected with the stable case by the connecting elements. The frame is compact, and which can be used for light guide plates with different sizes.

  • Publication number: 20040136173
Abstract: A surface light source device providing illumination for a liquid crystal display panel includes a plurality of light sources (51) for emitting light beams, and an LGP (52) for transmitting the light beams. The LGP includes a light incident surface (523) for receiving the light beams, an emission surface (521) adjacent to the light incident surface for emitting the light beams, a bottom surface (522) opposite to the emission surface, and a plurality of diffusion dots (56) formed on the bottom surface for scattering the light beams. An area of each diffusion dot is inversely proportional to the sum of squares of distances between the diffusion dot and each of the light sources. The systematically varying areas of the diffusion dots enable the surface light source device to provide highly uniform illumination.

  • Publication number: 20040125590
Abstract: A light guide plate (32) used in a surface light source (30) for a liquid crystal display comprises a light incidence surface (321) for receiving light beams, an emission surface (325) perpendicular to the light incidence surface for emitting the light, a bottom surface (323) opposite to the emission surface and a plurality of grooves (327) and light reflection dots (329) formed on the bottom surface. The grooves are formed in a continuous band adjacent to the light incidence surface and extend perpendicular to the light incidence surface for scattering the light beams. The light guide plate provides highly uniform illumination for a liquid crystal display panel.

  • Publication number: 20040114068
Abstract: A backlight system (100) in accordance with the present invention includes a plurality of light sources (110) for emitting light beams and a light guide plate (120) for receiving the light beams emitted by the light sources. The light guide plate includes a light input surface (121) and a light output surface (122) joining the light input surface. The light input surface has a plurality of recesses (124) therein. The recesses have cylindrical surfaces, each having a specific curvature, and the light beams emitted by the light sources pass through the cylindrical surfaces orthogonally. Since nearly all of the light beams enter into the light guide plate with few being reflected at the light input surface, the backlight system is highly efficient in light utilization.

  • Publication number: 20040105143
Abstract: A broadband light source (200) includes a pump laser (20), a lanthanide series element-doped fiber (22) having a predetermined length, a WDM device (21) with at least three ports, and first and second optical isolators (23, 28). Two ports (26, 29) of the WDM device respectively connect with the laser and the fiber. The first isolator connects with a third port of the WDM device. The second isolator connects with the fiber. The first and second isolators are located in an output passing of the source for reducing reflection of output light. Pump light is coupled to the fiber by the WDM device, and is amplified by the fiber. A part of the amplified light passes the second isolator and is exported. A remaining part of the amplified light is coupled to the first isolator by the WDM device, and is exported via an output end of the first isolator.
