    Abstract: A seat reclining device has a base plate secured to a seat cushion, an arm member secured to a seat back, upper and lower tooth plates pivotally mounted on a base plate and provided with upper and lower teeth, a cam member pivotally mounted on the base plate, and at least one support for the lower tooth plate. When the cam member moves the lower tooth plate in a direction to bring the lower teeth into contact with the upper teeth, the upper tooth plate is locked together with the arm member so that the seat back becomes unable to pivot relative to the seat cushion. In such a locked condition, the support supports the end portion of the lower tooth plate so as to maintain the engagement of the upper and lower teeth. Thus, the seat reclining device can lock the seat back with improved strength.

    Abstract: A dual lock seat reclining mechanism includes left and right devices and a connection member connecting the left and right devices. Each device includes a base member to be fixed to a seat cushion, a swing tooth plate adapted to be fixed to a seat back and swingably mounted on the base plate through a center shaft, and a look tooth member having an external toothed portion for engaging with an internally toothed portion of the swing tooth plate. An operation member or lever is swingable between the base member and the swing tooth member, for moving the look tooth member toward and away from the internal toothed portion of the swing tooth plate for locking and unlocking. The operation member has a pin slidably received in an elongate arc hole of the base plate. A link has an outer bent portion engaged with the pin in the elongate hole, and an inner portion connected with one end of the connection member for transmission of rotation.

The bearing plate is guided by spaced guide walls of the first hinge member and pushed by an elevated portion of a cam pivotable about an axle together with a lever which is pivotable about the axle. Pivoting the lever to an unlocking or released position causes the cam to disengage from the internal teeth.

Further, an outer gear of Taumel mechanism is formed in the base frame; an inner gear of the Taumel mechanism is formed in a reclining arm in mesh with the outer gear; and the reclining arm is disposed on the inside surface of the base frame and the reclining gear is disposed on the opposite outside surface of the base frame. Further, a shock absorbing member is disposed at the reclining gear to effectively absorb shock generated when the seat back is tilted to its extreme position stoppers.
