  • Patent number: 5178425
Abstract: An automobile bumper comprises a bumper face and a bumper beam constructed of members molded of thermoplastic resin. The bumper beam includes at least two members of thermoplastic resin having flanges for forming beam flanges together when the members are fused to each other, the beam flanges being fused to an inner surface of the bumper face. An FRP sheet is continuously heated in an atmosphere having a temperature successively lowered from a temperature higher than a resin melting temperature at which a resin of the FRP sheet is melted so that the entire FRP sheet is increased through successive heating stages to a temperature between the resin melting temperature and a resin degradation temperature at which the resin of the FRP sheet is degraded.

  • Patent number: 4772340
Abstract: An iron-base article such as a camshaft has a remelted layer of high wear resistance on a cam surface, for example. To make such an iron-base article, molten metal is poured into a mold with a chill set therein to cast an iron-base article having a chilled region formed in contact with said chill. Then, metal powder which provides wear resistance upon being mixed is added to at least a portion of said chilled region. A high level of energy is applied to the portion of the chilled region to heat and remelt the same, and the remelted portion is thereafter cooled to form a remelted layer therein.

  • Patent number: 4241596
Abstract: An apparatus for roll-forming a blank ring into an annular product such as a seamless wheel rim. The apparatus includes an annular die rotatably supported in a die head, and a pressure roll rotatably supported in a roll head and movable toward and away from the annular die. The apparatus further includes a cylinder unit for moving the pressure roll radially of the annular die when the pressure roll is in the annular die, whereby the blank ring can be interposed between the pressure roll and the annular die. As the die is rotated, the blank ring is roll-formed between the roll and the die into an annular ring, which then is confined in the annular die and can be taken out when the die is disassembled into a plurality of segments. The product thus formed has a high degree of circularity and precision, and is free from distortions.
