  • Means silencing suction noise in internal combustion engines

    Abstract: A device for silencing suction noises wherein a suction passage making a combustion chamber of an engine and an expansion chamber communicate with each other through a suction valve, is also provided with a fuel feeding device interposed in the passage. A suction pipe makes the expansion chamber communicate with the atmosphere, and has a substantially constant cross-sectional area over its entire length. The expansion chamber is predetermined to have a cross-sectional area larger than that of the suction passage and to have a substantial volume. The ratio of the suction pipe length to the suction passage length is selected to be in a range of 0.7 to 1.4.
