  • Patent number: 8780025
Abstract: Light reflecting layers 45a that totally reflect light are provided inside the subpixels 10 disposed in particular regions on an inner face of a TFT array substrate 4, and light reflecting layers 45b that scatter light are provided inside the subpixels 10 other than those. Thanks to this, the reflectance of the light reflecting layers 45a can be rendered different from that of the light reflecting layers 45b. As a result, differences can be created in the display light formed by the light reflecting layers 45a and by the light reflecting layers 45b, by means of the light that is reflected thereat. Thereby, fine adjustment of the display light brightness and contrast is enabled, so that a liquid crystal display device 1 with extensive power of expression and superior display characteristics is provided.

  • Publication number: 20050078244
Abstract: A color filter substrate has reflective portions and transmissive portions. The color filter substrate includes a transmissive base; a foundation layer formed over the transmissive base; a reflective film formed over the foundation layer; a bank formed over the reflective film so as to define a deposit region; and a coloring element formed within the deposit region that is defined by the bank. The foundation layer includes a depressed portion at the transmissive portion. The thickness of the coloring element is greater at the transmissive portion than at the reflective portion. The depressed portion formed on the foundation layer allows an adequate setting of the film thicknesses of the coloring element at the reflective portion and the transmissive portion. With this structure, the brightness of and color density of the display are rendered uniform at the reflective portion and the transmissive portion.

  • Patent number: 6071111
Abstract: A mold assembly for forming a lens blank which gives a contact lens includes an upper and a lower mold half which cooperate with each other to define a substantially fluid-tight mold cavity when the two halves are assembled together. The mold cavity is filled with a monomer liquid which is polymerized to provide the lens blank that is to be subjected to a cutting operation for forming a base and a front curved surface of the contact lens. The upper mold half includes a flexible thin-walled portion which has a downwardly convex shape and which partially defines the mold cavity. The thin-walled portion is deformable to absorb expansion or shrinkage of the monomer liquid during polymerization thereof in the mold cavity. The lower mold half includes a base portion at which the lower mold half is clamped by a chuck of a lathe during the cutting operation. A mold portion of the lower mold half has a molding surface which is provided with a recess or protrusion for holding the lens blank on the lower mold half.
