  • Patent number: 5543934
Abstract: In an apparatus and method for recording inputted digital video and audio signals of one field, which are synchronous with each other, onto a plurality of inclined tracks of a magnetic tape using a plurality sets of helical scan type magnetic heads provided in a rotation head drum at predetermined angle intervals, a read clock is generated. A read address of a first field memory is generated based on the read clock, so that the inputted digital video signal is read out and recorded onto both end portions of each of the inclined tracks of the magnetic tape, after starting recording the inputted digital video signal of one field onto an end of the inclined track, and ending recording the inputted digital video signal of one field onto another end of the other inclined track. On the other hand, a read address of a second field memory is generated based on the read clock, so that the inputted digital audio signal is read out and recorded onto the middle portion of each of the inclined tracks.

  • Patent number: 5459621
Abstract: Method and apparatus for recording a plurality of audio channels on segmented tracks of a tape by rotary heads. The audio channels to be recorded are allocated to recording sectors provided for the individual audio channels on the basis of the relation between the number of the audio channels and the number of the segmented tracks, so that each recording track necessarily includes the individual audio channel recording sectors uniformly distributed in the longitudinal direction of the tape, and the two-dimensional distance between the sectors on which the same audio channel is recorded can be maximized on the tape. Thus, an adverse effect of an error attributable to a dropout and/or a scar formed on the tape can be dispersed, thereby achieving high capability for error correction.

  • Patent number: 5327295
Abstract: A recording apparatus of the present invention includes selective guard adding means for predicting, at the time of editing, positions of adjacency of new tracks to previously recorded tracks obtained at the time of completion of new track recording, and adds, at the time of editing, guards to locations where disturbance due to residue of erasing of the same azimuth might occur in order to remove or reduce the disturbance due to residue of erasing of the same azimuth caused at the editing point. When performing reproduction from a recording medium whereon tracks recorded by heads of at least two kinds of azimuth angles are disposed alternately and a plurality of tracks are handled as one recording unit and recorded, a reproducing apparatus of the present invention is so configured that the center of each of heads located at both ends of reproducing heads may be shifted to the inside as compared with each corresponding recording track.

  • Patent number: 5289322
Abstract: An apparatus is described for rearranging the relative positions of data samples of a digital video signal within each field of the video signal, for use in a digital VTR in which alternate samples are separated into two different recording channels to be recorded on different tracks of a recording medium. The apparatus includes an intra-line shuffling circuit and a field memory into which output data from the shuffling circuit are written, such that adjacent samples which are of the same channel and are located mutually adjacent in the same line of the video signal are read out from the memory and recorded on respectively different tracks of the recording medium, thereby ensuring that if a sample is lost due to a read error, the adjacent samples of the same channel will always be available for use in interpolation processing to compensate for the lost sample.

  • Patent number: 5264920
Abstract: A digital component video signal processor or a digital VTR which can record/reproduce both an extended 4:2:2 signal based on sampling at 18 MHz and a 4:2:2 signal based on sampling at 13.5 MHz while minimizing dummy data to be generated upon recoding/reproduction. The extended 4:2:2 signal and the 4:2:2 signal are changed over by switches, and the output sides of memories use timing signals based on a clock signal of 36 MHz whereas timing signals based on the clock signal of 36 MHz and timing signals based on a clock signal of 27 MHz are changed over by a switch on the input side of the memories, whereby each of an extended 4:2:2 signal and a 4:2:2 signal at a rate of 288 Mbits/sec can be outputted to a terminal.

  • Patent number: 5233433
Abstract: A recording digital VCR for recording digital PAL signals sampled at four times the chrominance subcarrier frequency, includes: a selection range shifter for shifting a sample in the horizontal direction by two samples depending on the field number; a sync. ID attacher for attaching sync. and ID including the field number; and an RF recorder for recording the signals on the tape. When the data signals recorded on the tape are reproduced at a high speed, samples stored across the fields in a reproduction memory can have the same address and same phase. Thus, it is possible to realize a recording format for reproducing a color at a high speed which has an excellent picture quality.

  • Patent number: 5200812
Abstract: A sampling frequency down-converting apparatus low-pass converts a digital picture signal sampled at a sampling frequency of 8 Fsc by a thinning out operation into the digital picture signal sampled at a frequency of 4 Fsc, and a sampling frequency up-converting apparatus high-pass converts the digital picture signal sampled at 4 Fsc into one sampled at 8 Fsc by interpolation. If the signal is wider in the required zone than the conventional NTSC signal and the PAL signal like the ATV signal, the transmission and the recording may be effected without the deterioration of the frequency characteristics.

  • Patent number: 5060077
Abstract: A method and apparatus of reproducing data recorded on a recording medium encompass generating a flag indicative of a state of the recorded data, storing the recorded data into a data memory and the flag into a flag memory, reading the recorded data from the data memory and flag from the flag memory, and selectively initializing the flag memory during a reading period, such as slow-motion reproduction and freeze reproduction, in which the recorded data and flag are to be repeatedly read out from the data memory and flag memory a number of times prior to a subsequent writing of the recorded data and flag into the data memory and the flag memory. The initializing of the flag memory is carried out only during a final time the recorded data stored in the data memory is read during the reading period.

  • Patent number: 4853796
Abstract: In a recording/reproducing apparatus for digital composite video signal, a phase sync circuit (110) for synchronizing color subcarrer phases, a sync/ID adding circuit (9), a sync/ID detecting circuit (12), a memory control circuit (13), a memory (14), and a phase relocating circuit (111), are provided for obtaining correct hues of the digital composite video signal when high-speed reproducing. When high-speed reproducing, the memory control circuit (13) is operated such that corresponding sampled signals in the memory (14) are stored as the same address with the same color subcarrier phase. As a result, a high image quality is achieved by the recording/reproducing apparatus even when high-speed reproducing with low manufacturing cost.

  • Patent number: 4760378
Abstract: A systematic method and apparatus for constructing a run length limited code in which the minimum number of continuous bits of the same binary value is constrained to d and the maximum number thereof is constrained to k.In converting m-bit data words to n-bit code words (n>m) to construct the run length limited code, selection means for n-bit code words usable to meet the d, k-constraint and a concatenation rule of the code words selected by the selection means are introduced. The selection means divides each of 2.sup.n n-bit bit sequences into a leading block L having l continuous bits of the same binary value, an end block R having .gamma. continuous bits of the same binary value and an intermediate block B having b(=n-l-.gamma.) bits between the blocks L and R.Only those n-bit bit sequences in which the blocks B thereof completely meet the d, k-constraint and the blocks L and R thereof meet conditions uniquely defined for given d and k are used as the code words.

  • Patent number: 4633330
Abstract: Disclosed is a digital recording and reproducing apparatus for television signal, which is designed to record and reproduce by sampling a television signal at a frequency lower than the Nyquist frequency, by dividing the sampled signal into blocks each of which is composed of adjacent plural sampling points, by orthogonally transforming in each block, and by subjecting the orthogonally transformed signal to weighted quantizing. The apparatus has achieved the reduction of recording bit and decrease of error propagation rate simultaneously so as to be applicable to recording and reproduction even in a home use VTR.
