Abstract: A process for producing a thiolcarbamate compound of the following formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group having 1 to 5 carbon atoms, an alkoxy group having 1 to 5 carbon atoms, a halogen atom or a nitro group, R.sub.2 represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, m is 1 or 2, and n is an integer of 4 to 6,which comprises reacting an .alpha.-methylstyrene of the following formula ##STR2## wherein R.sub.1 is as defined above, or its dimer with hydrogen sulfide in the presence of a catalyst to form a mercaptan of the following formula ##STR3## wherein R.sub.1 is as defined above, and reacting the mercaptan of formula (II) with a carbamoyl chloride of the following formula ##STR4## wherein R.sub.2, m and n are as defined.

Abstract: In the process of subjecting a compound selected from phenols, N,N-dialkylanilines and mixtures thereof to nitrosation reaction conditions using a nitrite in an aqueous system to prepare nitrosated products selected from benzoquinone oximes and p-nitroso-N,N-dialkylanilines, the nitrosation reaction is advantageously carried out in the presence of an acid stronger than nitrous acid an organic acid of pKa 2 to pKa 5 or a salt thereof and water, the quantities of the organic acid and water being up to 5 times by mole and up to 10 times by weight the quantity of the compound to be nitrosated, respectively.

Abstract: A method of inhibiting the polymerization of styrene which comprises mixing with the styrene a minor but effective quantity of an inhibitor compound selected from the group consisting of 2-methylbenzoquinone-4-oxime, 2,3,5-trimethylbenzoquinone-4-oxime and mixtures thereof.
