  • Patent number: 8643766
Abstract: An autofocus system which can prevent erroneous tracking of an unintended tracking target, is provided. In a recognition and tracking mode which uses an AF frame to automatically track a face of a specific person for which certification data is previously stored, a face of a specific person designated by an operator is detected by face authentication processing from a captured image obtained from a television camera. Thereafter, the face is detected from the captured image by a pattern matching processing in which an image of the face is used as a reference pattern for object tracking processing, and the AF frame is moved to the detected position. The face recognition processing is executed each time when the object tracking processing is executed a predetermined times, thereby preventing erroneous tracking by the object tracking processing.

  • Patent number: 8363108
Abstract: An autofocus system includes: an image pickup unit; an autofocus unit performing focus adjustment such that a subject in a AF area is to be in focus in the photographing image; a tracking unit moving the AF area to follow the movement of the subject in the range of the photographing image; a reference pattern registering unit registering the subject image in focus as a reference pattern; and a matched image detecting unit detecting a subject which is most closely matched with the reference pattern in the photographing image. When the amount of movement of the detected subject in a screen is less than a given value, the reference pattern is updated with the image of the subject, and an AF frame is updated to follow the moved subject. When the amount of movement is equal to or more than the given value, a tracking operation stops.

  • Patent number: 8237847
Abstract: When the user sets an AF frame such that an object tracked as an AF target is in the AF frame, an auto-tracking process starts to detect a face image from the image captured by a television camera. Then, it is determined whether the face image is detected from the peripheral range of the AF frame. If it is determined that the face image is detected from the peripheral range of the AF frame, the position of the AF frame is changed on the basis of the position of the face image. On the other hand, if it is determined that the face image is not detected from the peripheral range of the AF frame, a pattern matching process is performed. The position of the AF frame is changed to the position of the object, which is a tracking target, detected by the pattern matching process.

  • Patent number: 7962029
Abstract: Disclosed is an auto focus system having an auto focus (AF) frame auto-tracking function that detects the image of an object to be tracked as an AF target using a pattern matching process and moves an AF frame indicating an AF target range to the position of the object, thereby tracking the object. When a person's face (face image) is included in the AF frame, the auto focus system having an AF frame auto-tracking function automatically sets the AF frame in an appropriate range so as to correspond to the position and size of the face image. Therefore, even when the size of the face image is changed, it is possible to appropriately track the face and perform focusing on the face.

  • Publication number: 20110019066
Abstract: Disclosed is an AF frame auto-tracking system that does not require a complicated operation when starting AF frame auto-tracking, is capable of setting the face of a person as a tracking target with a simple operation, and reduces the load of an operator. A CPU of an image processing unit determines whether the face of a person is included in an image captured by a camera body. If it is determined that the face of the person is included in the captured image, the CPU automatically sets the face of the person included in the captured image as an object, which is a tracking target. When a plurality of faces of persons is included in the captured image, the CPU automatically sets a face with the largest size among the plurality of faces of persons as the object, which is the tracking target.

  • Publication number: 20100123782
Abstract: By performing a tap operation on any one of the buttons on a screen of a liquid crystal display equipped with a touch panel for performing an operation input on the AF frame auto-tracking, it is possible to select a desired mode among a fixation mode, an object tracking mode, a face detection tracking mode, and a face recognition tracking mode. The fixation mode is suitable to set a position of the AF frame by means of manual operation. The object tracking mode is suitable to allow the AF frame to automatically track a desired subject other than a face. The face detection tracking mode is suitable to allow the AF frame to track a face of an arbitrary person previously not registered. The face recognition tracking mode is suitable to allow the AF frame to track a face of a specific person previously registered.
