Abstract: A recording/reproducing apparatus and method can accurately reproduce high density record information by the mark-edge recording method. The apparatus and method can use a sag cancellation circuit or a reference slice level follow-up circuit immediately before or at amplitude limitation for amplitude of a read signal to attain transient correction. As a result, the recorded information can be reproduced even under a reproduction environment with a low signal to noise ratio without an amplitude limiter circuit for narrowing the margin for transient caused by sudden variation of direct current.
