  • Patent number: 5597209
Abstract: An adjustable armrest for a vehicle seat in which a ratchet mechanism is provided to resist downward movement of the armrest and allow upward movement to adjust the armrest position relative to the seat back. The ratchet mechanism is released upon raising the armrest passed the upper end of its adjustment range enabling the armrest to be lowered to the lower end of its adjustment range wherein the ratchet mechanism again engages to hold the armrest in place. Attachment of the armrest to the seat back is provided by sliding the armrest over a mounting stud extending laterally from the seat back. A wire spring clip attached to the armrest seats in a groove in the stud to hold the armrest axially on the mounting stud. When assembled, the spring clip will be positioned at the interface between the armrest and the seat back enabling a flat tool such as a screw driver to be inserted between the armrest and the seat back to manipulate the clip to remove the armrest.

  • Patent number: 5383707
Abstract: An interlock for a fold down seat back with an integral child seat prevents the use of the child seat unless the fold down seat back is latched in place and likewise prevents unlatching of the seat back when the child seat is deployed. The interlock is provided as a simple subassembly that can be added to the seat back quickly and easily. The interlock avoids the need for a striker bar attached to the child seat cushion panel and minimizes the extent of modifications required to an existing seat back latch.

  • Patent number: 5286084
Abstract: A seat assembly in which the seat back includes an integral child seat. The child seat is formed by a single panel rotatably mounted in the seat back and rotatable to a forward use position in which the top of the panel has a rear portion for seating of the buttocks of a child seat occupant thereon and a front portion forming a footrest for the child occupant. The child seat is deployed solely by rotating the panel from its stowed position within the seat back to the forwardly extending use position. The seat belt restraint system for the child seat includes a retractor mounted within the child seat panel. An optional rotating member can also be mounted in the front face of the panel forming a arm rest, cup holder or storage bin for use by adult occupants when the child seat is not deployed.

  • Patent number: 5282667
Abstract: A vehicle seat assembly is disclosed containing an integrated child seat having a child seat cushion and headrest stored within the seat back of the seat assembly. The child seat is deployed by raising the child seat headrest from an upper portion of the seat back and rotating the child seat cushion from the seat back forward to a generally horizontal use position overlying the adult seat cushion. The seat assembly of the present invention includes a floating pivot axis for the child seat cushion to enable the seat cushion attaching hardware to be placed rearward from the face of the seat back to improve adult seating comfort. The buckle for the child seat restraint system is pivotally mounted directly to the child seat cushion enabling a user to easily insert a latch plate of the restraint system into the buckle with one hand freeing the other hand for restraining the child.
