Publication number: 20240039174Abstract: An electrical connector assembly includes a Litz wire having multiple wire strands. Each wire strand has a conductor and an insulator. The electrical connector assembly includes an electrical contact having a contact portion at a mating end and a Litz wire termination portion at a terminating end. The contact portion is configured to make an electrical connection with a mating contact. The Litz wire termination portion is crimped to an end of the Litz wire. The Litz wire termination portion is heated by an induction heating device after being crimped to the end of the Litz wire to heat the wire strands and melt away the insulators of the wire strands to electrically connect the conductors at the end of the Litz wire to make an electrical connection with the individual wire strands of the Litz wire.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 1, 2022Publication date: February 1, 2024Inventor: Kurt Allan Randolph

Patent number: 11205862Abstract: An insulation displacement arms. The insulation displacement arms define a conductor or wire receiving slot. The insulation displacement arms have insulation stripping sections, weakened sections and base sections. The weakened sections have weakened section widths which are less than insulation stripping section widths of the insulation stripping sections and less than base section widths of the base section. The weakened sections are resiliently deformed upon one or more insulated conductors engaging the insulation stripping sections of the insulation displacement arms as the one or more insulated conductors are inserted into the insulation stripping zone of the wire receiving slot, allowing the insulation displacement contact to accommodate the one or more insulated conductors of the same type and gauge chosen from a broad range of gauges.Type: GrantFiled: October 28, 2019Date of Patent: December 21, 2021Assignee: TE CONNECTIVITY SERVICES GMBHInventors: Kurt Allan Randolph, Brian Keith Weaver

Patent number: 10957992Abstract: An electrical contact assembly having a braided Litz wire and an electrical contact. The electrical contact has a contact portion and a Litz wire termination portion. The contact portion is configured to make an electrical connection with a mating contact. The Litz wire termination portion has serrations which engage the braided Litz wire. The Litz wire termination portion has a length to allow the Litz wire termination portion to make an electrical connection with each individual wire of the Litz wire.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 2019Date of Patent: March 23, 2021Assignee: TE Connectivity Services GmbHInventors: Kurt Allan Randolph, Jeffrey Richard Ruth, Paul Walter McDowell

Publication number: 20200403326Abstract: An embodiment is directed to a grounding terminal for mounting on a grounding surface. The grounding terminal has a top wall having a first mounting opening and a bottom wall having a second mounting opening. The second mounting opening is in alignment with the first mounting opening to receive mounting hardware therethrough. A first side wall extends between the top wall and the bottom wall at angles other than 90 degrees. A second side wall extends between the top wall and the bottom wall at angles other than 90 degrees. As the mounting hardware is tightened, the shape and positioning of the side walls relative to the top wall and bottom wall reduces the amount of torque required to move the top wall toward the bottom wall to allow for the mounting hardware to be tightened without the need for special tooling.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 18, 2019Publication date: December 24, 2020Inventors: Kurt Allan RANDOLPH, Brian Keith WEAVER, Chong Hun YI

Publication number: 20200287300Abstract: A connection terminal made of a metal sheet includes a body portion having a first edge and a second edge extending in a longitudinal direction of the body portion and opposite to each other in a transverse direction of the body portion, a first wing extending from the first edge, and a second wing extending from the second edge. The first wing and the second wing are opposite to each other in the transverse direction of the body portion. A length of the first wing extending from the first edge is greater than a length of the second wing extending from the second edge. An inner surface of each of the first wing, the second wing, and the body portion has a plurality of first grooves.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 6, 2020Publication date: September 10, 2020Applicants: Tyco Electronics (Shanghai) Co. Ltd., TE Connectivity India Private Limited, TE Connectivity Services GmbHInventors: Sheng Li, P. K. Senthil Kumar, Kurt Allan Randolph, Yongjian Huang, Weiguo Li, Tongbao Ding, Xing Tong

Patent number: 9147957Abstract: An electrical connector is provided that includes a housing, terminals, and a stuffer. The housing has a plurality of terminal channels extending from a rear to a front of the housing. The front of the housing is configured to interface with a mating connector. The terminals are loaded into corresponding terminal channels from the rear of the housing. The terminals extend along a terminal axis between a mating end and a terminating end. The terminating end includes at least one tab that protrudes radially outward from the terminal axis. The stuffer is coupled to the rear of the housing. The stuffer includes multiple teeth received in corresponding terminal channels. When one terminal is not fully loaded in the terminal channel, the corresponding tooth engages one or more of the at least one tab of the terminal and forces the terminal further into the terminal channel.Type: GrantFiled: January 14, 2014Date of Patent: September 29, 2015Assignee: TYCO ELECTRONICS CORPORATIONInventors: Kurt Allan Randolph, Jeffrey Richard Ruth, Richard Benjamin Emenheiser
