  • Patent number: 5669999
Abstract: A method for producing vehicle structures such as railway coach bodies includes winding layers and integral annular frame elements of like material. The resulting body is free of metal can include additional longitudinal stiffening elements inserted between the annular frame elements. Windows covered by protective foils are installed in an insulating layer between the wound layers during the winding process. At the conclusion of the winding process, the portions of the inner and outer wound layers covering the windows are removed and the window openings are finished by inserting a reinforcing frame on the outer wound layer and an angle frame on the inner wound layer.

  • Patent number: 5365662
Abstract: A method for manufacturing an internal structure of a coach body having a self-supporting outer structure includes winding an inner covering layer on a winding core, attaching channel segments to a ceiling wall and insulation segments to corner regions, attaching heating fabric sheets to a floor wall and to side walls, attaching metal rails extending longitudinally to the floor wall and the side walls, filling between the rails with insulating foam, winding an outer covering layer to form an internal structure. After the setting of the resin impregnated layers, the internal structure is removed from the winding core and cut open longitudinally at the floor wall. The internal structure is elastically deformed and inserted into an outer structure. The walls of the internal structure are moved by a tensioning device into engagement with the outer structure and the internal structure is provisionally attached to the outer structure with fasteners.

  • Patent number: 5362345
Abstract: A method for the manufacture of integral coach bodies includes the steps of winding an inner covering layer on a body-shaped winding core and attaching a plurality of U-shaped channel segments to outer surfaces of ceiling and floor walls and attaching a plurality of insulation segments in corner regions of the body. A stiffening framework is attached to the outer surfaces of side walls of the body, insulation plates are attached in some rectangular openings in the stiffening framework and blank covers are positioned in other ones of the openings for subsequently installing windows and doors. The attached elements form a step-tree surface upon which is wound an outer covering layer. The coach body thus manufactured is removed from the winding core, the blank covers are cut out for the door and window openings, apertures are formed in the inner covering layer for the feed and removal of air and openings are formed for mounting illumination devices in the ceiling wall.

  • Patent number: 5201834
Abstract: A method for performing operationally prescribed brake trials before the departure of a railway train, utilizes an indicating and diagnostic system disposed on board the train and operated by the train driver. Sensors in the braking system of each car bogie supply information signals representing pressures, travels and forces to a bogie processor which is connected with a car processor. The car processors are connected by a continuous data bus line with a central processor. The central processor processes the operational information from the brake system according to a processing program into status reports such as general status indications, fault diagnoses and maintenance instructions. The indications and instructions are visually displayed on a monitor and a printer, and acoustically reproduced by a speech synthesizer through a loudspeaker. The car processors are programmable by means of mobile computers and interrogatable by means of pocket terminals.

  • Patent number: 4947762
Abstract: An assembly unit for the interior finishing of passenger carrying vehicles, in particular of two story railroad car type, consists of modular prefabricated functional units each having at least one of the functions cable duct, loudspeaker, illumination, baggage repository, window shade, and interior covering. Support beams of the functional units are suitably designed aluminum extrusions. The prefabrication of the functional modules takes place outside of the car body in a workshop region specially equipped for this purpose and comprises the working procedures, mechanical processing, surface treatment, assembly of the functional devices, prewiring and functional testing. The functional modules are installed and assembled in a predetermined sequence in the car body into an assembly unit containing the named functions.
