    Abstract: The expandable/collapsible trivet is adapted for use in holding a container or other item a predetermined distance above a horizontal supporting surface. The trivet comprises a lazy tongs mechanism including a plurality of pivotally interconnected strut members which define a top bearing surface and a bottom surface, and a plurality of legs extending from the bottom surface at some of the intersections of the strut members for supporting the lazy tongs mechanism above a horizontal supporting surface.
