  • Patent number: 4859281
Abstract: A copper etching composition and an improved method for copper etching utilizing the composition, the composition includes an aqueous solution of a strong acid, a stabilized hydrogen peroxide, and an accelerator that can include both tolyltriazole and either an aliphatic water soluble monoalcohol or a glycol monoether in the etchant solution to provide a faster etching rate.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: August 22, 1989
    Assignee: Pennwalt Corporation
    Inventor: Kurt Goltz
  • Patent number: 4485131
Abstract: Aqueous alkaline coating compositions for metal substrates comprising a water soluble salt of an acrylic polymer which contains carboxyl groups, a divalent metal ion, a volatile base and a defoamer. The acrylic polymer is present in the coating composition in an amount greater than about 0.25 gm/liter and less than about 5.0 gm/liter.

  • Patent number: 4427459
Abstract: A method and material for forming phosphate conversion coatings on ferrous metals such as iron and steel or non-ferrous metals such as zinc and aluminum employes aqueous acidic solutions containing a metal phosphate such as zinc phosphate, an accelerator such as sodium nitrite, and a crystal refining material which is an acidic organic phosphate or phosphonate having at least one free alcoholic hydroxyl group and where the phosphate is derived from a cyclic or branched chain organic alcohol.

  • Patent number: 4395387
Abstract: Condensed aluminum phosphates, useful as hardeners for water glass cements, are prepared in a solid state reaction by dry mixing aluminum hydroxide with an ammonium phosphate, heating the mixture at an initial temperature below 250.degree. C. for longer than about 2 hours and then raising the temperature in stages to at least about 400.degree. C. so as to minimize foaming and to avoid any liquefaction of the mixture during the reaction.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 13, 1981
Date of Patent: July 26, 1983
    Assignee: Pennwalt Corporation
Inventors: Kurt Goltz, William T. West
  • Patent number: 4346014
Abstract: Carbon smut on post-annealed cold rolled steel sheet and strip is inhibited by a process using a rolling oil containing from 0.5 to 5% by weight of specific organic nitro compounds in the cold rolling oil. The steel sheet and strip are substantially smut free after batch annealing. Rolling oils and their aqueous emulsions containing the organic nitro inhibitors are also disclosed and claimed.
