  • Patent number: 5490900
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the continuous application of surface cover foils to the surfaces of particle boards wherein the particle board is surfaced and roughened as it leaves a double band press in which it is manufactured. A grinding and roughening tool includes a carrier studded with grinding crystals which carrier is pressed against the surface of the particle board by pressurized air while it is oscillated in a direction normal to the movement of the particle board. Subsequently, decorative foils taken from rolls are applied to the particle board surfaces and attached thereto under heat and pressure while the particle board with the decorative foils thereon is moved through an isobaric double band press.

  • Patent number: 5185114
Abstract: The production of wood material particles into board or panels, such as chipboard, fiberboard, OSB panels, MDF panels and the like, involves coating the particles with a binder free of any hardener. The coated particles are deposited on a support surface in the form of a mat and then are compressed. While the particles are being compressed in a press, an acid or basic hardener in a gaseous phase or in a binary phase with a gaseous carrier agent, is introduced across and into the surface of the mat or directly into the interior mat. The compression of the mat can be performed either in a continuous double band press or a discontinuous single or multi-platen press. In a double band press, two press bands are arranged in opposte relation and the hardener is introduced into the mat in a wedge-shaped inlet zone between the press bands. The hardener flows through openings in the press band onto the surface of the mat.

  • Patent number: 5149394
Abstract: A method of and apparatus for continuously fabricating laminates formed of several layers of resin-impregnated material webs is carried out in combination with a double band press including a pair of endless press bands forming a pressing zone. Material webs free of resin are removed from a source and placed on a stretch of the run of at least one of the endless press bands at a location between a press outlet and a press inlet, and spaced from the pressing zone. The impregnation and drying of the resin takes place at least partially on the stretch approaching the press inlet, that is, before the pressure molding takes place. At the press inlet, the material webs are placed together forming a layered member and then are pressure molded, heated and/or cooled between coextensive stretches of the endless press bands to form the laminate. The resin is applied to the material webs from a resin applying device located between the press outlet and the press inlet outside of the pressing zone.

  • Patent number: 5125812
Abstract: In the fabrication of wood material panels, processed wood particles are coated with a binder free of a hardener and then are spread in a fleece on a support surface. The fleece is then compacted and pressed to form the panel. Before the compacting step, microcapsules are introduced into the fleece. The microcapsules have enclosing walls that do not react with the binder and contain a hardener in the gaseous phase or in the binary phase with a gaseous carrier agent. When the fleece is compacted, the capsule walls are destroyed and the hardener is released into the fleece. The microcapsules containing the hardener are produced in a device located adjacent to the inlet end of the press so that there is only a short distance between the device and a mixing station where the microcapsules and the bonded processed wood particles are mixed. The mixing station is located just ahead of or at the spreading station where the mixed wood particles and microcapsules are formed into the fleece.

  • Patent number: 5122770
Abstract: An alternating current contactor has an armature to be actutated by a magnet system. The armature is operatively connected to a return spring-loaded contact base holding movable contact parts of the contact system. The contact base is here provided with a supplementary mass and brought into operative connection with the armature via a coupling spring, the supplementary mass being movable relative to the contact base and an additionally provided intermediate part to which the armature is coupled. The coupling spring, taking support on the contact base on the one hand, can, on the other hand, bear against an angularly bent end of the intermediate part which is pressed against the supplementary mass. The supplementary mass is applied against a stop at the contact base or being spring-loaded through a separate supplementary spring counter to the direction of movement of the contact base against a stop at the contact base.

  • Patent number: 5098514
Abstract: Heatable or coolable portions of a double band press or a single or multiplaten press have channels for a fluid heat carrier. In these channels, heat is exchanged by convection between the walls of the channels and the heat carrier fluid. Surface enlarging inserts of a material with good heat conducting properties are inserted into the channels in order to improve heat exchange. These surface enlarging inserts have a surface which is fastened to the walls of the channels in order to improve heat exchange. Several elements projecting into the flow of the heat carrier fluid emanate from this surface of the surface enlarging insert. The surface enlarging insert is composed of several identical or different individual parts which are fabricated separately and subsequently inserted into the channels in such a way that they have area contact with the wall of the channels.

  • Patent number: 5087319
Abstract: The invention is directed to an apparatus for continuous fabrication of laminates comprising several layers of at least partially resin impregnated material webs which are extruded together. The material webs are taken off supply coils in the take off units and are subsequently stacked upon each other. The stacked material webs are then extruded into a laminate web in a double band press with application of area pressure and possibly heat. The laminate web is subsequently further processed in a grinding and cooling arrangement located downstream of the double band press, which consists of a grinding station and cooling station combined into one single device. Downstream of the grinding and cooling arrangement is a reel up arrangement for winding the laminate web upon supply coils or a transverse cutting station for subdivision of the laminate web into plates or panels.
