  • Patent number: 4915767
Abstract: An apparatus (10) of the type for applying an elastic ribbon (18) onto the surface of a moving web (12) in curved line path relative to the longitudinal centerline (14) of the web (12) includes a nip roll (16) for directly rolling the elastic ribbon (18) into engagement with the moving web (12) and an oscillating roll (20) adjacent to and spaced from the nip roll (16) for oscillatiang the elastic ribbon (18) in a direction transverse the centerline of the web (12) and applying the elastic ribbon (18) to the nip roll (16) in the curved line path. A guide roll (22) guides the elastic ribbon (18) to wrap around the oscillating roll (20) and tension the elastic ribbon sufficiently for tracking and holding the lateral position of the elastic ribbon (18) on the nip roll (16) to be applied to the moving web (12) in the curved line path.

  • Patent number: 4650532
Abstract: A method of forming folded hems about the periphery of openings in a moving fabric web includes inserting a mandrel having radially expandable and contractible folding means into the openings to turn out of the web a peripheral portion of the fabric which is then folded back by radial expansion of the folding means. The folding means is radially contracted for entry and withdrawal of the mandrel. Apparatus for carrying out the method may comprise a rotating drum within which a plurality of mandrels is mounted to orbit with the drum. A continuous web of fabric having openings therein is carried by the drum and positioning means reciprocatingly insert and withdraw the mandrel through the fabric openings. Control means radially expand and contract the folding means synchronously with the positioning means.

  • Patent number: 4573382
Abstract: An apparatus and method for cutting a web of material having a conveyor carrying and continuously moving a length of the web material, an oscillating means, a cutting arm mounted on the oscillating means and moveable between a position over the web and a position laterally outside of the web in a turn-around area. A nozzle mounted on the cutting arm and connected to a source of high pressure fluid and a fluid jet ejected from the nozzle towards the web and moved by the cutting arm in an oscillating manner along a path between the turn-around area and the position over the web. As the fluid jet oscillates along its path, the movement of the fluid jet in conjunction with the movement of the web results in the cutting out of a section of the web.
