  • Patent number: 6279647
Abstract: A method and an arrangement for sensing the clearance between an object and an object-adjacent surface, which is particularly for use in difficult ambient conditions, such as in dirty, corrosive environments and under varying temperature and pressure conditions, e.g. to measure and hold constant the clearance between the sector plates (3, 4) of a regenerative rotary air preheater and the end surfaces of the rotor (2, 8). The sensing device (7) includes a compressed-air operated pipe (9) which is mounted on the object (3, 4) and which includes a sound-emitting opening (14) located adjacent the surface (8), wherein changes in the distance (S) between the object (3, 4) and the surface (8) are represented by changes that occur in the resonant frequency of the pipe (9).

  • Patent number: 6119764
Abstract: A regenerative, rotary heat exchanger includes a stationary housing; a rotatable rotor in the housing; radially extending partition walls in the rotor separating the rotor into sectors; and a regeneratable mass in the sectors. Axially adjustable sector plates are located in sealing relation with respect to respective axial end surfaces of the rotor into which and out from which two heat exchanging media are directed in counter-flow separated by the partition walls. A flange is fixedly attached to the rotor and extends circumferentially around at least one of the respective axial end surfaces of the rotor, and a sensing device senses a clearance between at least one of the sector plates and the flange. A controller adjusts the clearance to a predetermined size responsive to the sensing device.

  • Patent number: 5845700
Abstract: A regenerative heat exchanger includes first and second parts. The first part is essentially cylindrical, includes a regenerative mass, and is rotatable in relation to the second part around a common center axis. The second part includes axially directed inlets and outlets for heat emitting and heat absorbing media. The inlets and outlets of the second part are mutually separated by sector shaped plates for sealing purposes positioned near to end surfaces of the first part. The sector shaped plates are pivotally connected to axially fixed center plates attached to the second part at ends of the first part, and each of the sector shaped plates includes at a radially outer end thereof a device which has at least one support member including a circular cylindrical sliding shoe for setting a clearance between respective ends of the sector shaped plates and an edge flange provided at each end of the first part.

  • Patent number: 4953629
Abstract: A pack of heat transfer plates (2,3) are intended for heat exchangers, preferably for rotary regenerative air preheaters. The plates have mutually parallel S-shaped double ridges (21,22;31,32) and the plates are arranged in the pack (1) so that the double ridges of one plate intersect the double ridges of an adjacent plate and extend symmetrically and obliquely in mutually opposite directions relative to the main flow directions (6) of the heat exchanging media. The throttling effect normally manifest at the double-ridge intersections (24) is avoided by orienting the plates (2,3) so that each pair of double ridges which converge onto an intersection (24) presents a part (21) of the double ridge of the one plate (2) which projects into an intermediate channel, and also a part (32) of the double ridge of the other plate (3) which projects from the intermediate channel.

  • Patent number: 4597726
Abstract: A screw compressor having two rotors (2,3) rotatably journalled for mutual meshing engagement in a respective working chamber (4,5) of a compressor housing (1). For the purpose of regulating the pressure ratio and the capacity of the compressor, a composite slide assembly comprising two slides (17,18) is mounted for axial movement in a recess (6) in the housing (1), the composite slide having two flanks which form a continuous wall in the two working chambers (4,5). The two slides are individually movable and, for the purpose of improving the regulating function one of the slides (18) is provided with a flank which forms a wall of the working chamber (4) of solely one rotor, preferably the male rotor (2).

  • Patent number: 4449573
Abstract: A pack of heat transfer plates for regenerative heat exchangers comprising superimposed profiled plates. Each plate is provided with spaced parallel double ridges protruding symmetrically from both sides of the plate and extending obliquely relatively to the general direction of the fluid flow through the pack. The plates are disposed such that the ridges of one plate lie transverse to the ridges of adjacent plates so that the plates are in contact with each other solely at points spaced along the crests of the ridges.

  • Patent number: 4427054
Abstract: A rotary regenerative heat exchanger comprises a plurality of moving sector-like rotor compartments carrying regenerative heat exchange material, in which leakage of a gaseous medium having a lower pressure and being trapped by a stationary section plate in the sector-like compartments to a gaseous medium of a higher pressure is at least reduced by the provision of a means for adjusting the sector plate to such an axial clearance with respect to the end of the rotor that an intentional amount of direct leakage of the high pressure medium is maintained between the rotor end and the sector plate, giving rise to forcing out the low pressure medium from compartments that are about to leave the low pressure medium passage and replacing it with high pressure medium.

  • Patent number: 4021011
Abstract: In the shipbuilding industry a number of temporarily erected scaffolds are needed and these scaffolds are carried by brackets mounted at various ship's structures, said structures usually being provided with permanently attached fittings for this purpose; certain internal components of a ship are provided with apertures without impairing their strength, which makes possible a very easy mounting of scaffolding brackets; the apertures are formed as horizontally running slots, and an attaching member at the bracket is formed as a flattened bolt head arranged vertically; when mounting a bracket, this is rotated 90.degree. in relation to its working position, whereby the flattened head will be oriented horizontally and can be inserted through the aperture; upon rotation of the bracket back to its working position, the head will engage the back face of the wall and the bolt may be tightened.
