Abstract: Provided are a method, system, and program for executing initialization code to configure connected devices. A plurality of segments are provided to configure at least one connected device, wherein each segment includes configuration code to configure the at least on connected device. The segments are executed according to a segment order by executing the configuration code in each segment to perform configuration operations with respect to the at least one connected device. Completion of the segment is indicated in a memory in response to completing execution of the configuration operations for the segment.

Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for global metadata copy repair. The apparatus includes a control module for copying global metadata from primary storage to target storage, a verification module configured to identify invalid tracks in the global metadata, a location module configured to maintain a current read address, and a read module configured to find a valid copy of the invalid tracks. The system includes a plurality of hosts, a storage controller in communication with the plurality of hosts over a network, a primary storage device, a target storage device, and the apparatus. The method includes copying global metadata from a primary storage device to a target storage device, identifying invalid tracks in the global metadata of the primary storage device, maintaining a current read address of a buffer read, and finding a valid copy of the invalid tracks.

Abstract: Method for selectively clearing persistent data such as metadata in a storage subsystem. The method includes identifying one or more metadata tracks to clear, receiving a request from a client to clear the identified metadata tracks, passing the request to a storage device driver, and clearing the identified metadata tracks. The metadata tracks to be cleared may be identified by a specific storage function associated with the metadata to be cleared or by a specific storage target associated with metadata. Alternatively, both a storage function and a storage target may be specified. Preferably, the request to clear one or more identified metadata tracks may be executed without affecting unrelated storage functions. In addition, the request may be executed while preserving metadata tracks unrelated to the identified metadata tracks.

Abstract: Provided are a method, system, and program for storing and using metadata in multiple storage location. Signature data is stored in a system storage indicating a plurality of metadata copy locations, each locating identifying a storage device and a copy location within the storage device. Each location contains one copy of the metadata, wherein the metadata includes system configuration information. A copy of the signature data is stored with each copy of the metadata.
