Publication number: 20240080778Abstract: An enhanced network environment is provided by configuring an indoor access point device in a region subject to AFC constraints to utilize the 6 GHz frequency band. The access point device requires configuration so as not to interfere with incumbent 6 GHz wireless infrastructures or systems. The configuring includes obtaining location information using Wi-Fi Location functionality to obtain one or more associated range measurements so as to determine an accurate access point device location. This location can then be sent as part of an AFC request message to an AFS management system to obtain a power allowance. Once configured, the access point device can be registered with the AFC resource and can operate at a power allowance that can be higher than the power allowance associated with the standard power or low power indoor.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 27, 2023Publication date: March 7, 2024Inventors: Jay W. STRATER, Gregory N. NAKANISHI, Kurt A. LUMBATIS, James R. FLESCH

Publication number: 20230362806Abstract: Managing an association of a wireless device to an access point device of a wireless network is disclosed. A client device sends an association request frame to one or more access point devices that is directed to a target access point device. A network controller device receives an association request event from each access point device that received an association request frame. The network controller device can select a preferred access point device based on one or more steering parameters of the associated request events. The network controller device sends the target access point device the preferred access point device as indicated by one or more preferred access point device parameters. The target access point device sends an association response frame to the client device that indicates the preferred access point device so as to steer the client device to the preferred access point device.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 26, 2023Publication date: November 9, 2023Inventor: Kurt A. Publication number: 20230276345Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer readable media can be operable to facilitate an exchange of messages between an access point and a station, wherein the access point requests a unique identifier from the station. The station may either respond with a message declining to provide a unique identifier or respond with a message including a unique identifier to be used by the access point for the station. The response from the station may include additional limitations on the use of the unique identifier by the access point. The access point may enforce different policies against a station depending upon how the station responds to the unique identifier request.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 3, 2023Publication date: August 31, 2023Inventors: Carol J. Publication number: 20230246998Abstract: To improve the network experience in a network, a unique device identifier (UDID) can be generated by a UDID generation module of a client device. The UDID generation module utilizes one or more device parameters as well as a service set identifier (SSID) as input(s) to the UDID generation module. The UDID can be reported to an access point device of the network so that the access point device can track, monitor, control, etc. the client device within the network, for example, when media access control randomization (rMAC) is utilized by the network to protect the privacy of the client device or a user of the client device. The same UDID is generated each time the client device joins the network so that the client device need not store the UDID.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 24, 2023Publication date: August 3, 2023Inventor: Kurt A. LUMBATIS

Publication number: 20230199488Abstract: Providing an automatic access configuration (AAC) that is customizable allows for automatic authorization of a client device to receive one or more access parameters via a requestor access point connection so as to access a network associated with an access point device each time the client device transitions within proximity of the network or each time an update is made to the network. The (AAC) can include one or more access parameters that identify client devices, users, or both that are permitted to access a network without requiring any manual input by a user. The (AAC) can be customizable so as to be updated according to the changing requirements of the network. Rather than requiring a user to provide input, the (AAC) can be accessed by the access point device to determine whether a specific client device should be authorized and provided access to a network automatically.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 8, 2022Publication date: June 22, 2023Inventors: Christopher S. DEL SORDO, Albert F. ELCOCK, Christopher R. BOYD, Kurt A. LUMBATIS

Publication number: 20230084715Abstract: To protect and ensure security and/or privacy, an access point and a wireless network device can exchange capabilities information. The capabilities information can indicate that each of the access point and the wireless network device support generation of an association identifier association media access control (A-AMAC) identifier. The A-AMAC identifier is based on an association identifier (AID) (that is assigned by the access point and associated with the wireless network device) and any other information exchanged between the access point and the wireless network device. The A-AMAC identifier once generated can be stored by the access point. The A-AMAC identifier is then used for post association communications between the access point and the wireless network device. As the A-AMAC identifier is a unique identifier for the association of the access point and the wireless network device, tracking of the wireless network device is thwarted or inhibited.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 2, 2022Publication date: March 16, 2023Inventors: Kurt LUMBATIS, Mark HAMILTON

Publication number: 20220264668Abstract: An access point can track a station throughout a network using an identifier, for example, a media access control (MAC) address. However, as MAC addresses are randomized or changing, there is a need for the access point to provide a unique identifier to a station that does not rely on a MAC address. The access point can receive a unique identifier query response action frame from the station that indicates that the station is associated with a corresponding unique identifier for the network and based on the unique identifier query response action frame, send a unique identifier set action frame to the station so as to cause the station to set as the unique identifier for the station the unique identifier of the unique identifier set action frame sent by the access point.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 3, 2022Publication date: August 18, 2022Inventor: Kurt A. Patent number: 11212035Abstract: A communication interface receives data points including link quality and link usage measurements related to a mobile computing device associated with the wireless network during a sampling interval. A processing device weights each data point based on at least one metric included in the link quality measurement and associated with a link usage measurement. Each weighted data point is evaluated against one or more thresholds. A weighted data point is discarded based on a result of the threshold comparison or assigned to one of a plurality of link quality bins based on a consolidated measure of the link quality measurements. A coverage quality score is computed based on a ratio of a total count of weighted link quality measurements in at least one of the plurality of link quality bins to a total count of weighted link quality measurements in all of the link quality bins.Type: GrantFiled: June 12, 2020Date of Patent: December 28, 2021Assignee: ARRIS Enterprises LLCInventors: Kurt A.
