    Abstract: The invention provides an apparatus and method for generating legal descriptions in an electronic database. Database records of land interests are grouped in logical groups. Records in the grouping having legal descriptions are used to create a legal description template for the records in the group. The legal description template is applied to selected records in the group creating legal descriptions for the selected records. The legal descriptions are stored in the database with the created legal descriptions providing auto generated legal description for subsequent searches.
