  • Patent number: 6296060
Abstract: Methods of placing off-shore wells on production comprising the steps of separating a gas from oil or oil and water produced by the well, introducing the gas into the seawater surrounding the well at a depth where the temperature and pressure of the seawater are such that solid gas hydrates are formed when the gas is mixed with the seawater, mixing the gas with the seawater whereby the gas is converted to solid gas hydrates and depositing the solid gas hydrates on the sea floor.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 10, 2000
Date of Patent: October 2, 2001
    Assignee: Kerr-McGee Corporation
    Inventor: Kurt P. McCaslin
  • Patent number: 5353237
Abstract: Apparatus and method for decreasing chemical requirements for chemicals injected into a stream a low concentrations, such as for dehydration of crude oil, are provided. An algorithm is used to provide a signal to decrease chemical injection rate of a variable rate pump if the water content of the treated oil has not exceeded a preset value in a preset time and to increase chemical injection rate if the water content of the treated oil is exceeded within a preset time. The algorithm allows the control system to learn from previous experience.

  • Patent number: 5271725
Abstract: Apparatus and method for pumping fluids from horizontal wells with a dip tube used without requiring a packer in the well. Gas is separated from the liquid phase ahead of the pump to avoid slug flow of gas into the pump. This increases the amount of oil that can be pumped from the well by avoiding shutdowns resulting from gas-locking of the pump.

    Filed: April 14, 1992
Date of Patent: December 21, 1993
    Assignee: Oryx Energy Company
Inventors: Thomas G. Freet, Kurt P. McCaslin
