  • Patent number: 5797790
Abstract: A compact fume hood arrangement includes a bypass channel mounted to a top panel of the fume hood which effectively extends a front open face of the fume hood upwardly providing an air path through the bypass channel which provides sufficient air flow to prevent disadvantageous air currents due to excessive face velocity. A vertical sash can be used such that raising of the sash proportionally closes the bypass channel while opening the open face of the fume hood.

  • Patent number: 5718626
Abstract: A tension adjusting sash suspension arrangement for a vertically reciprocal sash for a fume hood having a cable connected to opposite sides of the sash, threaded over front corner pulleys, threaded around rear corner pulleys, threaded through a tension adjusting mechanism and directed downwardly to a common counter weight. The tension adjusting mechanism includes two laterally arranged pulleys mounted rotatably on a sliding bracket. The sliding bracket is slidable along a fixed bracket and fixable in selected position along a slot. The cable lengths are adjusted by loosening the sliding bracket with respect to the fixed bracket and allowing the counter weight to take up all tension in the cables, and then fixing the sliding bracket in position. The sash counter weight system can be precisely adjusted for proper vertical movement of the sash without binding caused by a skewed travel.

  • Patent number: 5582472
Abstract: An improved storage cabinet is provided which is particularly suitable for the safe storage of flammable materials. An embodiment of the cabinet includes two side-by-side doors which close toward each other. Each door is self-closing, being biased in a closed position by a spring. For convenience, each door can be retained in an open position by a chain. The chain includes a fusible link which melts in the presence of a dangerous level of heat, allowing the associated door to close. In order to protect the interior, the doors have overlapping edges. Accordingly, the cabinet has a closing synchronization mechanism which causes the dual doors to close in a predetermined order. Sequential closing is necessary to effect a proper overlapping of door edges, providing a heat shield. Furthermore, the doors are self-latching, as one door has an independent, three-point latching arrangement which engages the cabinet housing at the top and bottom as well as the first-closed door.

  • Patent number: 5407389
Abstract: A fume hood defines a ventilated and enclosed work space surrounded by two opposed side panels, a rear panel connected between the side panels, and a top panel, with an access opening formed at the front of the enclosed work space between front-facing edges of the side panels. The side panels and rear panel of the fume hood are double-walled, defining interior flow spaces in fluid communication with each other. The interior flow space of the rear panel is in fluid communication with a negative pressure source and with the enclosed work space through egress openings formed on the interior wall thereof, such that contaminated air may be withdrawn from the work space by the negative pressure source and discharged to a benign area.

  • Patent number: 4856420
Abstract: Fume hoods with sash controlled airflow paths are provided with inwardly inclined upright transparent sash and outwardly inclined transparent top panels to increase visibility of the hood interior. The tilted or angled transparent upright sash facilitates outside viewing of articles inside the hood since a viewer standing in front of the hood can look down on the articles without reflective glare from outside lighting while at the same time the outwardly inclined transparent panel above the closed sash captures the outside lighting to enhance the interior illumination of the hood and allows clear vision into the upper part of the cabinet.
