Patent number: 5318232Abstract: A thread winder includes a revolver on which two radially spaced mandrels are disposed for supporting thread-receiving tubes. Thread is wound onto one of the tubes located in a winding position and, when that tube is filled, the thread is transferred to the other, empty tube without interrupting the thread feed, by rotating the revolver. After the filled package is moved out of the winding position, a deflecting rod is swung to deflect the thread to a position where it can be grabbed by a transferring device. Then, the deflecting rod is swung away from the thread, and the transferring device is swung out to displace the thread toward a thread catcher disposed on the empty tube (or its mandrel), whereupon the thread is severed. A thread diverter is also swung out from the transferring device to shield the empty tube from the trailing end of the severed thread extending from the filled package.Type: GrantFiled: July 2, 1992Date of Patent: June 7, 1994Assignee: Maschinenfabrik Rieter AGInventors: Peter Busenhart, Ruedi Schneeberger, Kurt Schefer, Beat Horler

Patent number: 4739940Abstract: The method of forming an overwound thread transfer tail entails moving a thread guide carrier which supports a thread guide in a first direction against an abutment and permitting the thread guide carrier to recoil and thereby cause a return movement of the thread guide after striking said abutment. The apparatus for performing the method comprises a thread guide and a movable member movable in a predetermined direction and connected to the thread guide. An abutment serves for limiting movement of said movable member in such predetermined direction, and structure is provided for moving the movable member against the abutment in a manner such as to cause recoil of the movable member.Type: GrantFiled: November 3, 1986Date of Patent: April 26, 1988Assignee: Rieter Machine Works LimitedInventors: Adolf Flueli, Heinz Oswald, Kurt Schefer

Patent number: 4598876Abstract: In a thread winder comprising first and second chucks and a friction drive member selectively engageable by the chucks, there is provided a screening plate movable from a retracted position into an operative screening position between an idle position of the first chuck and the winding position of the second chuck which prevents thread tails dangling from a completed package on the first chuck from engaging and becoming entangled with the package forming upon the second, usually lower, chuck or the friction drive member. An auxiliary guide or deflector is provided for deflecting a thread during changeover of winding from the first, usually upper, chuck to the second, usually lower chuck. This auxiliary guide or deflector also cooperates with the screening plate to screen a package on the first chuck from a winding operation on the second chuck. A control system controls the retraction and advancement of the screening plate in response to operation of the winding machine.Type: GrantFiled: March 1, 1985Date of Patent: July 8, 1986Assignee: Rieter Machine Works LimitedInventor: Kurt Schefer
