  • Patent number: 4662276
Abstract: A printing mechanism (10) is descirbed which comprises a plurality of setting wheels (16) rotatably mounted on a common axis. With these settings wheels (16) type carriers (20) carrying printing types in one peripheral region and indicator types in another peripheral region are in a drive connection. A setting shaft (42) carrying an actuating knob (48) and adapted to be brought into a drive connection with each of the setting wheels (16) is arranged rotatably and axially displaceably. Stop means limit the rotation angle of the setting wheels (16). The actuating knob (48) and the setting shaft (42) are in connection with each other via a slip coupling.

  • Patent number: 4544433
Abstract: An apparatus is described by which a label bearing tape can be transported intermittently in a manually operated labeler. The device contains a transporting carriage (19) reciprocable along the label bearing tape (5). In the carriage a latch (22) with a clamping face (25) is held in frictional engagement with the label bearing tape so that during movement of the carriage in one direction it freely slides on the label bearing tape, while during movement of the carriage in the other direction it clamps the label bearing tape against an abutment surface (26) with self-locking action. The clamping face of the latch is covered with abrasive paper, preferably with an aluminous abrasive paper.

  • Patent number: 4491497
Abstract: The invention relates to a hand labeling apparatus for printing and applying adhesive labels on articles. The apparatus comprises a printer (21) held by a printer carrier (20) which is pivotable between an inoperative and an operative position. In the inoperative position the printer carrier (20) holds the printer (21) lifted off an adhesive label (11) lying on a printing platen (14), while in operative position it holds the printer (21) in contact with the adhesive label (11). By drive means (3, 30, 5) the printer carrier (20) can be moved from the inoperative into the operative position and can be automatically returned to the inoperative position under the influence of a resetting force. In order to prevent double imprints on the adhesive label the device includes retaining means (46, 60) which hold the printer carrier (20) in the operative position with a retaining force that is less strong than the resetting force.

  • Patent number: 4486258
Abstract: A labeling device is described by means of which adhesive labels can be printed, dispensed, and applied on an article. During each operating cycle an adhesive label is printed in the device and transported into a dispensing position below an applicator roll which is mounted for rotation on an elastically deformable axle. In order to render the applicator roll yieldable to a degree desirable to make it conform to the surface to be provided with an adhesive label, the applicator roll is supported on the axle in a central region of its longitudinal extension, while on either side of said central region there follow axle bore regions extending up to the end faces of the applicator roll in which the latter surrounds the axle with a clearance.

  • Patent number: 4419171
Abstract: The machine intended for printing two lines of characters of different color (8, 9) on self-adhesive labels comprises two printheads mounted in a rocking housing (7).This housing comprises two holding elements (14, 16) engaged in two guide slots (17, 19), and a drive finger (15) engaged in a fork (18) of a drive lever (13) actuated by a trigger (3).The slots have shapes which are so adapted that upon the printing impact of the two lines of characters on a print platen (12) the rocking of the housing is transformed into a translation which is not affected by the play and movements of the drive lever and is oriented towards the print platen. Two inking rollers of different color (22, 23) are mounted in a common retractable support (24) by means of a mechanism (26, 29, 30) intended to assure the selective inking of the two lines of characters.

  • Patent number: 4392424
Abstract: This invention relates to a belt printing mechanism with parallel mounted endless type belts which carry on their exterior surface print types. These type belts extend around an adjustment wheel and a plurality of star wheels where the star wheels are rotatable about a shaft where each star wheel has four corners. A catch mechanism is held under tension against the star wheels and holds these in predetermined detent positions to prevent free rotation of the star wheels. When printing multi-character symbols, the selected print types of adjacent type belts must be brought into predetermined printing positions. In order to assure a clean print copy, care must be taken that the print types rest in the exact same line height. In order to accomplish this, the catch mechanism for each star wheel is provided with a spring tongue which touches at least two separated points of the perimeter of its associated star wheel between two adjacent corners thereof.

  • Patent number: 4288276
Abstract: A hand-held labelling apparatus for printing, dispensing and applying self-adhering labels, having a housing provided with a handle and having two side walls consisting of sheet metal and held in spaced relation. Each side wall of the said housing comprises two parallel and free edges which are opposite one another.Casing or sheathing walls consisting of synthetic plastics are capable of being pushed over the outsides of each side wall. The said casing walls comprise flanges which engage over the free edges of the side walls.

  • Patent number: 4194448
Abstract: In a printing device such as labelling appliance having a printing table, a printer movably mounted with respect to the table, an ink carrier which inks printing types carried by the printer, an inking pivot member which holds the ink carrier at the free end thereof and which is pivotable against the force of a return spring, the pivot member being adapted to be pivoted out of the path of movement of the printer when the printer moves toward the printing table, the improvement comprising the ink carrier being a resilient transfer roller which is freely rotatably mounted with respect to the inking pivot member and including a dense, readily wettable surface, an inking roller that stores ink, the inking roller being made of a finely porous material, an inking roller support having side walls where each wall has an open-ended bearing recess which opens toward the transfer roller for freely rotatably supporting the inking roller about an axis parallel to the axis of rotation of the transfer roller, the inking rol

  • Patent number: 4072105
Abstract: In an apparatus for printing and dispensing labels carried in a label ribbon of indeterminate length, a hand lever is held in a rest position by a return spring and a printing device is coupled with the hand lever for movement toward a label, located on a printing table, upon depression of the hand lever and away from the printing table upon release of the hand lever. A transport mechanism is coupled with the hand lever for advancing the label ribbon by a distance equal to the label spacing on the ribbon each time the hand lever is actuated. A printing device is carried at the free end of a further lever movable in the same plane as the hand lever and normally held stationary by a pawl, the other end of the further lever being coupled with the hand lever through a further spring extending between the hand lever and the further lever.
