    Abstract: Enhancement of crop yields through the application of sugars, for example, monosaccharides, and/or disaccharides and/or polysaccharides, to soil. Application of the sugars is at a rate of at least 25 pounds per acre, more preferably at least 50 pounds per acre, and more preferably at rates of between 100-250 pounds per acre or more regardless of a solid or liquid application. The application involves at least one application of the sugars at a time prior to, during and/or after planting. Depending on the form and/or type of the sugars applied, application can be accomplished via broadcast spreading for solids or via spraying for liquids. The sugar can be sucrose supplied in the form of granulated sucrose and broadcast spread prior to planting. The sugar can be applied in-furrow either separately, or in combination with a conventional fertilizer.
