  • Patent number: 6941153
Abstract: A radio communication apparatus having maximized channel capacity, and a method thereof, preferably includes a transmitter having a plurality of transmitting antennae, wherein each transmitting antenna transmits on a channel using a transmission power that is allocated and a base-band signal that is modulated according to a feedback signal from a receiver. The feedback signal is preferably derived in the receiver using an algorithm that analyzes and processes a previously received signal from the plurality of transmitting antennae. Only information on the amount of transmission power to be allocated to a first transmitting antenna from the plurality of transmitting antennae is fed back. Therefore, the channel capacity may be maximized while minimizing the amount of information in a feedback signal. Further, decoupling conversion is not required, thereby reducing the size and cost of manufacturing hardware.

  • Publication number: 20050192019
Abstract: A method for transmitting and receiving data in a multiuser Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) system including a base station connected to a plurality of user equipments. In the method, each of the user equipments separately calculates channel capacity information using a linear reception scheme and a nonlinear reception scheme, and feeds back the calculated channel capacity information to the base station. The base station separately calculates system capacities using at least two different antenna scheduling schemes based on the channel capacity information fed back from the user equipments, and allocates antennas to the user equipments using a selected antenna scheduling scheme having higher system capacity out of the two antenna scheduling schemes.

  • Publication number: 20050153659
Abstract: Provided are a mobile communication apparatus including an antenna array and a mobile communication method. The mobile communication apparatus has a base station and a mobile station. The mobile station measures the downlink characteristics, detects physical space information and approximate long-term information, produces short-term informatio, transforms the short-term information and the physical space information into a feedback signal, and transmits the feedback signal to the base station. The base station receives the feedback signal, extracts weighted information, beamforms dedicated physical channel signals, combines pilot channel signals with the result of the beamforming, and transmits the results of the combinations to the mobile station via the antenna array. The physical space information denotes space information about the location of the mobile station with respect to the base station, and the approximate long-term information denotes long-term information.

  • Publication number: 20050111566
Abstract: Disclosed is a wireless communication apparatus and method for a multiple transmit and receive antenna system using multiple codes. In suggested detection algorithm, a successive interference cancellation (SIC) scheme is employed in both an antenna domain and a code domain by successively canceling multi-code interference (MCI). An effective transmit power allocation method suitable for the detection algorithm is suggested. Transmit power allocated to each code is calculated. The transmit power is determined as a simple ratio of power of a certain signal to power of a next code signal. Based on the calculated code transmit power, transmit power for each transmit antenna is allocated. Thus, information about transmit power calculated at a receive end is feedback to a transmit end through a feedback channel.

  • Publication number: 20040190484
Abstract: A wireless communication apparatus includes a base station having M antennas to communicate with K user terminals through a wireless channel. The base station includes a data rate information recoverer for recovering from feedback signals received from the K user terminals data rate information indicating an available data rate of each subchannel from the M antennas; a subchannel and data rate assignment information generator for assigning the M subchannels to the K user terminals according to the data rate information and determining data rates of the assigned subchannels; and a transmitter for transmitting data for the selected M user terminals to the M user terminals via the assigned M antennas at the determined data rates. If K is greater than or equal to M, the subchannel and data rate assignment information generator assigns the M subchannels to the M user terminals selected from the K user terminals on a round robin basis, in each time slot.

  • Publication number: 20020018530
Abstract: A transmission antenna diversity method, and a base station apparatus and a mobile station apparatus therefor in a mobile communication system are provided. In the transmission antenna diversity method, channel information is measured from signals received through the plurality of antennas used in the base station, and a channel information matrix is output. The channel information matrix is transformed according to a transform matrix composed of a complex basis vector set. Reception power with respect to the plurality of antennas is calculated based on the transformed channel information matrix. Antenna selection information obtained based on the calculated reception power is transmitted to the base station as feedback information for controlling transmission antenna diversity. Therefore, power is equally distributed to transmitting antennas, excellent performance is maintained at a high speed of movement, and reliable channel adaptation is accomplished at a low speed of movement of the mobile station.
