  • Publication number: 20080092570
Abstract: An air conditioner and a method of controlling the same, which is capable of minimizing power consumed in an indoor unit and an outdoor unit by cutting off external power supplied to the outdoor unit in a standby mode when it is determined that the air conditioner has a standby operation condition. When a standby operation state is switched to a normal operation state, power is supplied from an indoor power supply unit to an outdoor power supply unit via a communication line to perform an initial operation of an outdoor unit of the air conditioner. Accordingly, external power supplied to the outdoor control board is completely cut off in the standby operation state and only an indoor unit is in a standby state, thereby minimizing standby power consumed in the air conditioner.

  • Patent number: 5931009
Abstract: A defrosting apparatus of an air conditioner and method thereof are provided to efficiently carry out a defrosting operation during the heating operation by comparing temperature of an outdoor heat-exchanger, an outdoor temperature and an operation time of a compressor to correctly discriminate whether the frost has accumulated at an outdoor unit, to thereby effectively carry out defrosting operation, the air conditioner having an outdoor heat-exchanger to heat-exchange the outdoor air and a compressor to compress a coolant for being heat-exchanged at the heat-exchanger, the apparatus comprising: a pipe temperature detecting unit to detect the outdoor temperature; an outdoor temperature detecting unit to detect the outdoor temperature during the heating operation via the operation of the compressor; a controlling unit to control the defrosting operation by discriminating the accumulation of the frost on the outdoor unit with consideration of the temperature of the outdoor heat-exchanger, the outdoor temperatu

  • Patent number: 5775989
Abstract: A room air conditioner includes a body having an air inlet, an air outlet, a heat exchanger, and a fan. The fan draws-in air from the room and directs the air through the heat exchanger (to be selectively heated or cooled therein) before returning the air to the room. At the air outlet a louver is provided for directing the flow of air being returned to the room. A motor is connected to the louver for vertically oscillating the louver so that the air can be returned sequentially to upper and lower portions of the room. The speed of movement of the louver is constantly varied, the pattern of variance being dependent upon whether heated or cooled air is being discharged, in order to achieve a more uniform room temperature, by taking advantage of the fact that hot air in a room tends to rise. If cooled air is being discharged, the louver travels faster at its lower range of movement so that more cooled air is discharged into an upper portion of the room.

  • Patent number: 5456633
Abstract: A method of and an apparatus for driving wind direction control louvers of an air conditioner, capable of accurately controlling the wind direction to be a desired direction by accurately driving a horizontally-extending control louver or a vertically-extending control louver adapted to control the wind direction of the air conditioner. The method includes a time measuring step for measuring the time taken for the control louver to be driven a predetermined amount, and a driving step for comparing the measured time obtained at the time measuring step with a reference time and increasing a drive force for the control louver when the measured time is more than the reference time while driving the control louver by a normal drive force when the measured time is not more than the reference time.
