  • Patent number: 9772975
Abstract: A method and system for approximating functions, including a function approximation repository, which includes a hybrid lookup table configured to store coefficients associated with polynomials in factored form (PFFs), and a results store configured to store results. The system also includes a function approximation device that includes two processors, memory, an IO module and a function approximation module, which includes functionality to receive a request to approximate the function for an argument; verify that the argument falls within a function interval; perform a determination to find a subinterval in which the argument falls; select a PFF associated with the subinterval; obtain PFF coefficients associated with the PFF from the hybrid lookup table; evaluate the PFF using the PFF coefficients and the argument to obtain a result; store the result in the results store; and return the result as an answer to the requesting entity via the IO module.

  • Patent number: 6278883
Abstract: A wireless data network provides message control center broadcasting over a paging channel covering a wide service area and base stations distributed in said wide service area providing two-way communication over a local channel in local service areas within said wide service area. The wireless data network provides asymmetrical data transmission rates between the base station and subscriber wireless data terminals. In addition, the base stations and wireless data terminals can each transmit at different data rates according to desired range and to minimize probability of collision. In one embodiment, a registration procedure is provided to establish continuous communication between a wireless data terminal and a base station in the local channel.

  • Patent number: 6272117
Abstract: A wireless data network, including a base station and multiple mobile wireless terminals, implements a synchronous 2-way communication protocol in which the availability of a communication channel is signalled by the base station in a control packet. The multiple mobile wireless terminals compete for acquisition of the communication channel by sending a request packet, upon detecting from the control packet that the communication channel is available. The base station grants the channel by acknowledging the request packet of a selected one of the mobile wireless data terminal. The mobile wireless data terminal communicates with the base station over the communication channel subsequent to acquisition. Upon the wireless data terminal relinquishing the communication channel, the base station sends out the next control packet indicating that the communication channel is again available.

  • Patent number: 6200656
Abstract: According to the present invention, an artificial tree is provided which includes a tree element having a central generally disc-shaped member and a plurality of generally annular rings concentric to the central disc-shaped member and to one another such that the central disc-shaped member and the rings, in the operative position, are positioned in a vertically spaced, tiered array, with the central disc-shaped member at an uppermost position such that the tiered array is configured to have a tree-shape. A plurality of connecting strips connect each tier of the array to a next adjacent tier of the array. The disc-shaped member, the concentric rings, and the connecting strips may be formed from a unitary sheet of material, and the disc-shaped member and the concentric rings may be formed by providing a plurality of discontinuous generally spiral slits in the sheet of material.
