  • Patent number: 11725137
Abstract: A plastic scintillator includes a polymer matrix, an aliphatic additive present in the polymer matrix in an effective amount to impart fog resistance to the plastic scintillator, and at least one fluorescent dye in the polymer matrix, the dye being effective to provide scintillation upon exposure to radiation. The effective amount of the aliphatic additive is in a range of greater than 0 weight percent up to 5 weight percent relative to the total weight of the plastic scintillator. Moreover, the aliphatic additive has a structure comprising up to 300 repeat units.

  • Patent number: 7747524
Abstract: A discount debit card is with a merchant's point of sale terminal to register a transaction and send data identifying the transaction, merchant, and the eCard holder to a discount debit plan provider's terminal. Authorization to complete the transaction is sent to the merchant's terminal while the plan provider's terminal manages the cash flow of the merchant discounted transaction amount to the merchant's account, the debit of the eCard holder account for the holder's discounted purchase amount and distribution of the difference between the merchant discounted amount and the eCard holder discounted amount to the plan provider or its affiliates.

  • Patent number: 6869287
Abstract: A method for teaching reading is provided, reflecting the understanding that reading is a process, operating primarily implicitly and guided by a neural network built specifically for that purpose. During the Excellent Reading component, the student must produce excellent reading—made possible by enhancing the predictability of the text through listening repeatedly to it interspersed with reading it silently. The student's brain is seduced into utilizing prediction of meaning as the major reading strategy, which allows it to develop implicitly-operating prediction and confirmation strategies that consistently yield excellent reading. During the Coached Reading component, as the student reads the text aloud from unfamiliar text, a tutor gives feedback designed to assist the brain realize its current reading strategies are not producing the desired results and the erroneously-built neural network needs remodeling.
