    Abstract: A beverage dispensing system is characterized by a beverage dispenser and a beverage dispensing tower located remote from the beverage dispenser. The beverage dispenser has a cold plate and the tower has a heat exchanger. To deliver chilled beverage components to and for dispensing by the tower, a closed-loop water circulating circuit extends between and includes a fluid chilling circuit of the cold plate and a heat exchange circuit of the heat exchanger. The closed-loop circuit is fluid coupled to a beverage valve of the tower to deliver chilled water to the valve, and a supply of beverage syrup is fluid coupled to the tower valve through a fluid chilling circuit of the heat exchanger for delivery of chilled syrup to the valve for mixing with chilled water in the dispensing of a beverage from the tower valve.

    Abstract: A variable capacity refrigeration system for a frozen product dispenser is controllable in response to cooling load requirements of the dispenser to have a variable cooling capacity that is in accordance with the cooling load demands placed on the refrigeration system by the dispenser. This is accomplished, in part, by providing the refrigeration system with a variable capacity compressor, the output capacity of which is controlled by varying its operating speed in a manner such that refrigerant output from the compressor generally meets the mass flow of refrigerant through expansion valves of the system. The arrangement provides for efficient operation of the frozen product dispenser from an energy standpoint and for a reduction in on/off cycling of the refrigeration system.

A first beverage component is flowed through the first inlet to the mixing chamber and a second beverage component is flowed through the second inlet to the chamber for mixing of the components in the chamber and exit of the mixture from the chamber through the chamber outlet. The pressure of the second beverage component in the second inlet is sensed upstream from the chamber and the flow of at least one of the first and second beverage components to the chamber is controlled in accordance with the sensed pressure to deliver to the mixing chamber a predetermined ratio of the first and second beverage components.

Water that is not immediately frozen thereon flows into a water pan positioned there below. A pressure fitting is positioned in the pan at the bottom thereof and connected to a pneumatic tube. The pneumatic tube is connected to a pressure sensor located on a control board at a position remote from the water pan. Pressure is communicated through the tube to the pressure sensor as a function of the depth of the water in the pan. This pressure is converted by a microprocessor of the control board for interpretation as a water level in the pan. As the water level in the tray lowers due to the formation of ice, the pressure transmitted to the pressure sensor reduces from a predetermined high or full water level.

Once a predetermined non-freezing temperature is reached, for example 40 degrees Fahrenheit, water circulation is stopped. However, the compressor continues to run and cool the evaporator for a predetermined period of time to a desired lower temperature. The pump is then turned on and water again circulated over the evaporator initiating the ice making cycle. This process insures that ice adheres to the evaporator and does not prematurely slough off and/or result in the formation of slush.

    Abstract: An air flow control for a multi-port refrigerator duct that conveys cold air from the evaporator chamber to a plurality of storage chambers within the fresh food compartment. The duct has a baffle providing individual branches for each storage chamber such that each is substantially coupled directly to the evaporator chamber so that a change in air flow in one branch does not significantly affect the flow in the opposite branch. A manually operated control is mounted within the fresh food compartment and has a face plate with a vent aligned with a liner input aperture communicating with the duct. A shutter disc is captured between the face plate and the liner, and has a tear drop opening. Rotation of the shutter disc alters the location of the tear drop opening and, thus the size of the passageway through the air flow control.

    Abstract: Refrigerator duct apparatus adapted for conveying cold air from the evaporator chamber within the freezer liner to a intermediate temperature storage chamber within the fresh food liner. The duct is coupled to an outlet aperture in the freezer liner using and adjustable joint that permits motion of the duct for alignment of the outlet port of the duct to an inlet aperture in the fresh food liner. Specifically, the inlet port of the duct has a mating flange with ears that are insertable through the outlet aperture in the fresh food liner in a predetermined rotational orientation. After insertion, the duct is rotated so that the ears engage peripheral portions of the outlet aperture. A dimension of the outlet aperture is larger than a corresponding dimension of the mating flange to permit the duct to be moved back and forth while the ears remain in sliding engagement on the peripheral portions to align the duct outlet port to the inlet aperture of the fresh food liner.
