Patent number: 12127517Abstract: A high throughput system for depositing seed into germination wells of a germination tray. The system comprises a seed distribution subsystem, and an individual seed transfer subsystem structured and operable to transfer individual seeds from wells in a seed storage tray to the seed deposition subsystem. The system additionally comprises a bulk seed transfer subsystem structured and operable to singulate a plurality of bulk seeds and transfer each singulated seed to the seed deposition subsystem, wherein the seed distribution subsystem structured and operable to receive seeds from the individual seed transfer subsystem and the bulk seed transfer subsystem, and deposit the seeds into wells of the seed germination tray.Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 2019Date of Patent: October 29, 2024Assignee: MONSANTO TECHNOLOGY LLCInventors: Michael Bailey, Corey G Barth, Wayne Brown, William M Fischer, Bradley D Hart, Armen Kachar, Krishna Motaparti, Kyle B Smith, Sudhager Subramaniam, Ryan K Tellor, Matthew J Weis

Publication number: 20220142062Abstract: Provided are methods for growing a plant under certain stressed conditions that alter the morphology of the plant. In certain aspects, however, although the plant is altered and may be undesirable for commercial purposed, the plant still produces an adequate number of seeds for breeding purposes. Further, because plants may be smaller in size, they can be grown at higher densities, allowing the production of large populations of plants to be brought under controlled conditions which can exclude pollinating insects and thus increase the genetic purity achievable in a breeding program.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 21, 2022Publication date: May 12, 2022Inventors: Juan CORDERO, Daniel Joseph OVADYA, Kyle B. SMITH, Adrian VARGAS

Patent number: 10117003Abstract: A system and method for detecting and managing wildfires using fixed sensors is described. The system and method deploy a plurality of fixed sensors in an area to be monitored. Each fixed sensor is operable to detect ambient conditions in the vicinity of the fixed sensor and to relay that information to a central control center. Each fixed sensor dormant until powered by heat from a detected fire allowing the fixed sensor to send data related to the ambient conditions using the transceiver before the sensor device is consumed by the fire. The system can then determine the attributes of the wildfire from the collective data from the plurality of fixed sensors and coordinate the activity of responders in response to the wildfire using the collective data.Type: GrantFiled: April 10, 2017Date of Patent: October 30, 2018Inventor: Kyle B. Smith

Patent number: 9619996Abstract: A system and method for detecting and managing wildfires is described. The system and method deploy a plurality of fixed sensors in an area to be monitored. Each fixed sensor is operable to detect ambient conditions in the vicinity of the fixed sensor and to relay that information to a central control center. A plurality of mobile sensors are deployed with responders, where each mobile sensor is capable of detecting ambient conditions near the respective responder and conditions of the responder. The plurality of mobile sensors are in communication with the central control center. The system then determines attributes of the wildfire from the collective data from the plurality of fixed sensors and the plurality of mobile sensors and coordinates the activity of responders in response to the wildfire using the collective data.Type: GrantFiled: August 14, 2015Date of Patent: April 11, 2017Inventor: Kyle B. Patent number: 9177106Abstract: Collecting, validating, managing, and sharing data, for example healthcare and patient data, may include using a networked portable device. A forms-based system and process (referred to in some embodiments as DirectForms™) may allow clinical staff to efficiently collect and validate data on portable devices. In accordance with an embodiment, the system combines a portable computing device, validation of data, network connectivity, and an opportunity for shared effort among users via industry-standard (for example HL7 compliant) or customized interfaces. A server-based utility may route forms and HL7-compliant data transaction exports. Interfaces may provide for merging data into appropriate patient records. Some systems may be used in an ambulatory care setting. Various aspects may provide for improved clinical assessment, effective patient management, cost savings, and the ability to provide a more efficient billing process.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 2009Date of Patent: November 3, 2015Assignee: Sutter HealthInventors: Kyle B. Smith, Richard E. Shaw

Apparatus and method for preventing pressure injuries and circulatory problems in sedentary patients
Patent number: 8558702Abstract: A warning device for the prevention of pressure sores and circulation problems from prolonged inactivity includes a sensor positioned in a pad to detect the weight of a user on the pad. A sitting timer measures the amount of time the user has continuously sat on the pad, and an alarm activated by the warning device when the user has continuously sat on the pad in excess of a first predetermined limit, wherein the alarm includes a visual alarm mechanism, an auditory alarm mechanism, and a sensory alarm mechanism. A standing timer is started when the user's weight is removed from the pad and measuring the amount of time the user has been off of the pad. The alarm is reactivated if the sensor detects the user's weight reapplied to the pad before the standing timer has expired.Type: GrantFiled: December 3, 2010Date of Patent: October 15, 2013Inventors: Kyle B. Smith, Kamal Mamdani, Sahit V. Dendekuri, Joseph G. Vettoretti, Ruoming Fan, Dalton A. Glenn -
